Removing gears from lower unit, Mercruiser 165

Removing gears from lower unit, Mercruiser 165

I'v got an old lower unit from a mercruiser 165 that I want to get the
gears out of. I want to make sure I pull the right thing first. Does the
drive shaft come out first then the lower unit gear set?
