Debatable, Three Mile Island, Chernobyl, Japan...for the major ones and 1000's of minor releases. Not to mention the nuclear testing. So why not ban plutonium, enriched uranium and so forth? It is dangerous because of the very reason we need it. High energy. I doubt we can have a Japanese type emergency. Modifications have been ongoing on older designs. Newer ones are more advanced than the Westinghouse and Ge designs of the 50s and 60s and Korea and China. We can never stop the natural process of the earth from affecting everything we do and power plants of whatever kind. We are deluding ourselves if we think we can get rid of nuclear, coal, and natural gas and just rely on sunshine, propellers and broccoli sprouts. What's going to power all those electric shoe boxes?Our society and economies is what it was/is because of energy. If we didn't have it well.... we would still be driving horses and burning wood and use outhouses. The European Socialist blueprint is a reduced economy and lifestyle.
