Default LaVerendrye: Dozois Dam on Ottawa River

I plan to paddle through Dozois Reservoire and continue down the Ottawa
River to Grand Lac Victoria. I see on the topo map nice road through Indian
settlement Barrage-Bourque from Dozois to probably another indian settlement
Ukunemakak on Lac Anwatan (about 1 km). But I wonder about the Ottawa River.
Would it be possible to put in just below the dam, instead of portaging to
Ukunemakak? I stopped once at the dam when driving on road 38 from Northwest
corner of LaVerendrye, but it was several years ago and I didn't look at the
river with "the scouting eye". It was a lot of whitewater below the dam,
obviously, water falls down from quite a height. Also lots of fishermen and
annoying big dogs from the settlement.

Thank you,

Lester
