If Christianity is a religion of peace, then how come so many people die in the name of Christianity? At last Christianity has a part about respecting thy neighbors. Never saw that anywhere in the Koran. Even if it was in the Koran it would be superseded by the "infidel" parts as the Koran does very much classify people in a preferential way. I am an agnostic, borderline atheist. Personally the only value religion cn offer mankind is teachings of peace for those minds not big enough to comprehend more. I am not anti nor pro religion, just that the bible did help us mature as a species. But mature enough to survive in the long term view, if falls very short. Even various factions of Islam kill each other. You could win the war just by letting them go at themselves. No US intervention required. That's not responsive to the question. My posit is that both Islam and Christianity are responsible for many, many deaths, and that in regard to "committing murder" in the name of their god, there's really no difference between the two. Oh, and various factions of Christianity kill or have killed each other, for the sake of "their" interpretation of Christianity. Christians like to claim a higher moral ground for their religion. History says that's hogwash. Agreed there. Roman Catholics for example, Popes favorite buddies are mafia as they think they can buy their way to heaven. I really get a snicker out of that. That is why separation of church and state is a huge step for mankind. Well, though I am not Catholic, I do admire much of what certain popes and certain nuns have done to improve the plight of the poor. Lots of good people in the churches no doubt. I don't have any problems with the old Mafia. Growing up where and when I did, I knew the sons and daughters of some Mafia captains. Their fathers were no less and probably more honorable than many of today's corporate executives. The father of a girl I dated was in the Mafia. He took me along on a family vacation trip to Florida when I was 16, and wouldn't let me spend a dollar. That was my first trip to South Florida. Sorry, mafia sin for 6 and repent with money on the 7th cannot be gods way (provided you believe in god). More like the "image" and PR play. When I first moved to Kansas City for my terrific but low paying job with the Kansas City Star, the night city editor suggested I find a cheap apartment in the "Italian Mafia" part of town, because the "don" there didn't allow street crime in *his* neighborhood. I took that advice. I worked the night shift and didn't get home until 1 am. You could leave your car parked at curbside with the keys in it, and it would still be there the next morning. Yep, never cross the local mafia. Not good for ones health. |
