One guy offered 25% of my asking price and wanted a boat ready to cross the Atlantic, 2 others offered 30% under my asking with no questions, etc. It was hard to keep my sociable attitude when one of them pinged twice again after my declining his offer. Another offered a trade of a nice 30' trailered sailboat which I would have taken seriously if I were wanting to go that direction. Looked like a great boat but I would have had to get a bigger truck for towing too. I got what I expected within 2 weeks of first advertising the boat, not really what I wanted but with the market the way it is now I'm happy. And the new owners are happy with their purchase. Now working on my 1967 Morgan 24. Great boat. I like the style and sturdiness of old boats and pretty much anything I do to this one will make it look better! There's not a lot wackier than the "offers" you'd get out of rec.boats, which is why I don't post prices here. I have an expensive camera outfit for sale. Guy supposed to come by around 10 am for a looksee and if he likes, he'll buy it. On the spot. For an agreed upon price. I've sold three boats privately since moving back to the DC area...my old SeaPro, a Parker 25 and a Parker 21. All sold quickly and within a couple of percentage points of my asking price. The last one I sold through...Craigslist! Guy offered $500 less than I was asking, and he sent a surveyor down here with a cashier's check and a truck with a hitch. Most of the posters in this newsgroup are not boaters and have little or no interest in boating. ========= I like Craigslist but didn't want to end up entertaining a bunch of "lookie loos" (been there-done that with local classifieds) so went with the sites dedicated to selling sailboats; Strictly Sailing, Sailboat Listings and Sailing Texas and this worked out very well with most responses coming from Sailboat Listings. River was glass flat yesterday and should have taken the pontoon out but ended up sanding old paint off the Morgan. Lot's more to do. Most of my callers came from Craigslist. One serious shopper came from here and I got a bid from flajim, er, sorry, Ziggy. |
