Principled folks who are nuts can rationalize murder. Principles? Bertbrain thinks those are "principles"? BTW, Ms. O'Donnell is the perfect GOP candidate: Christine O'Donnell: Of Mice and Men * By Steven Andrew, Austin Science Policy Examiner I don't know whether to laugh or make plans to move to another country. Christine O'Donnell, the Tea Party Candidate for Senator in Delaware, seems to think mad scientists have developed mice with, and I quote, "Fully functioning human brains." Seriously, not making this up. Via Talking Points Memo: O'Donnell -- They are -- they are doing that here in the United States. American scientific companies are cross-breeding humans and animals and coming up with mice with fully functioning human brains. So they're already into this experiment. The article notes it's possible O'Donnell misread, ahem, an article in 2005 about scientists who were able to promote the growth of human neural stem cells in mice. Given her abysmal grasp of basic science I suppose that's plausible. For what it's worth, a fully functioning human brain (And most non functional ones for that matter), assuming we limit ourselves only to the cerebrum where the higher functions associated with mammals and problem solving are located, is a cool 1000 cc's in volume. That's roughly as big as a medium-sized grapefruit. Other than the character pictured above courtesy of the Wiki and the Pinky and the Brain cartoon series, I don't know of any mice, rat, or gerbil who could cram that structure into their normally 1 cubic centimeter volume skull, but maybe O'Donnell knows something I don't. Outside of that not sure what else to add. It's well known this fruitcake O'Donnell is against stem cell research. It turns out she's one of those incredibly rare small government conservatives who wants the gubmint the hell out of people's private business and back in rape victim's wombs forcing them to have the rapists' children. But this is just plain whacked. This lady is a clown. As a Senator she terrifies me, but for a science writer and occasional satirist, she's solid gold. - - - Another woman in the Palin-Bachmann mold. And I do mean mold. But BAR thinks she has principles. |
