If you rescind the Bush tax cuts, you also raise the tax rate of those people near the bottom. For example the 10% rate is gone, replaced by 15%, the same is true of all the rates. I have every tax return since 1983 in my files along with the 1040 book. Do we really want to run the numbers for some typical working class people before and after the current rates came into effect? I know my taxes are the lowest they have ever been and according to the people here I am "working class" not "middle class". My taxes would go up about $4000 if I used the Clinton tax tables. The Obama plan is to let tax cuts expire for those making over $250K. Do you make over $250K? If so, then yes, you're taxes will go up. However, the right wing would like everyone to believe that it will be an across the board tax increase, which is hogwash (unless the Republicans continue to obstruct meaningful legislation). |

In article , says... Well, you are wrong, the lower 50% will pay it all. Folks who make over 250,000 aren't going to give anything up for the new taxes, they will just increase their profits and fees to the rest of us until the whole tax burden falls completely on the lower 50% of income earners. Do you really think if you raise corporate taxes they are just gonna' reach into their pockets and pay the difference? Of course not, they will just increase rates to make up the full difference, every penny of it. In theory it may sound good to the truly stupid, but in fact, the whole tax burden will eventually come from those of us who make less than 250,000... Hey, that gives me an idea. Raise taxes on the low incomes. Eliminate taxes on the high incomes. Then the low incomes won't have money to spend. But the high incomes will be rolling in dough. So then they just start giving away stuff to the low incomes. The low incomes will feel real grateful. The high incomes will feel real generous. Very nice feelings all around. I think that's a good platform for the GOP. But maybe they already have that, but without the giving stuff away part. They should adjust that. I been thinking about all this talk about 43% not paying Fed income tax. Looks like 50% of all taxpayers have less than $32k income. But $32k - that's a whole lot of money right there. Why ain't these cheap *******s paying Fed income tax? Especially all the ones of them making $10-15k doing them flunky jobs so they can get their kids fat on junk food and sodee pop. Then their standard and dependent deductions for expenses adjusts their gross to nothing, so they skate paying Fed taxes. What's wrong with these deadbeats? That's why we should flip the tax structure. Everybody happier, and healthier kids. Yep, a nation of boaters. Jim - Tosk makes see things in a different light. |

The person I described is a victim as well. And, they are already paying more. actually they're not paying more. the US federal tax code is VERY SLIGHTLY progressive. and they're certainly not a victim like someone making the median income in this country of 60K It's the ultra-wealthy you are wanting to target. Income tax rates isn't going to touch them, but that doesn't fit in your rant. again, someone has to pay. the middle class is tapped out. we need to double capital gains. but the GOP wont let that happen...and that DOES fit into your rant |

A 35% swing isn't "slightly", no matter how you spin it. *and they're certainly not a victim like someone making the median income in this country of 60K They were victimized proportionally the same amount. Actually, someone with more investments lost even more, so the less you made the less you lost. It's the ultra-wealthy you are wanting to target. *Income tax rates isn't going to touch them, but that doesn't fit in your rant. again, someone has to pay. Therein lies your liberal problem... it's tax, tax, spend, spend... whatever it takes to buy the votes. Someone else always has to pay. *the middle class is tapped out. we need to double capital gains. but the GOP wont let that happen...and that DOES fit into your rant For the last four years the house and senate have been under demoncratic control... but no capital gains change has happened. Look like the limo libs don't want it either. Else, they could have done it at any time. Tacked it on to the health care bill, right? |

Yeah, the poor people. Sure is easy to blame them! But those rich people, gotta give them all the breaks. Again you miss the point. If you rescind the Bush tax cuts, you also raise the tax rate of those people near the bottom. For example the 10% rate is gone, replaced by 15%, the same is true of all the rates. the bush tax cuts would remain for people earning less than 250K the rich, who destroyed the economy, would start to pay their fair missing Someone making 250K is not rich, had nothing to do with the economy issues, and is already paying more in taxes than others who earn less. So, you make more than $250K? I doubt it. |

We don't have a clue what the new plan will be until it is passed and signed but we do know what happens if they simply let the current cuts expire. It is like the people who are slapping each other on the back over the Fin Ref without actually knowing what is in the bill. I am sure in a year or two we will be hearing about bad things that were slipped into this bill at the last minute, like Bob's rant about the Commodity "reform" that allowed these problems in the first place. Which no one is talking about doing. Nice try. |
