An outward opening door is a good idea in a commercial setting where the masses tend to trample each other trying to get outside in case of fire or other alarm. An outward opening door in a residence would serve little purpose other than sweeping visitors off the front stoop into the bushes. Well, that sounds like a potential advantage. ![]() Back to security. One disadvantage of outward opening doors... if someone came to your door and you opened it...he could prevent you from closing and could easily push his way in. With an inward door... you could always plant one foot behind the door, and partially open it, when suspicious characters ( that would be Looney) show up. And that leaves your hand free for your pistola, in case a looney steps over the threshold and actually enters the premises without permission. The force of the blast would push the intruder back out, maybe, saving you from having to mop up the blood from your nicely finished interior floor. |
