Default Small binoculars?

Anyone have a pair of small binoculars you either love or hate, and want to
tell me about them? It's my son's birthday in 2 weeks and he's getting
binoculars for backpacking, unless I cook up a better idea between now and
then.

If you want to shop prices, check with the Hasidic camera stores in NYC.

I bought a pair of Minolta 8x24 'Pocket' binoculars many years ago when a
local camera store folded.
Put away my bigger zoom ones because, although small, the Minolta are very
clear & reasonably bright for daytime use.
I keep them in my dogs 'equipment bag' so I always have them on hand when
I'm down at the edge of the local park which borders on our harbour.
If I feel I need a pair for boating, I'd look at the West Marine Tahiti
7x50.

I'll find out, but my son has a pair of small binoculars that have a
digital camera built in them. and he can eaither go wide angle or
close up. Not really expensive either.

I might get a pair for myself.

Best small ones I have used were the Nikons. I have a Bushnell and one
other one now, and both are bad. Both have problems mechanically with the 2
halves moving in relation to the other half. My small Nikon was stolen from
the car, and need a small pair so bought the Bushnell. Was given the other
pair. My large 8x42 are Nikon ATB's.
