Default Pulling the bow railing this weekend.

Well, the nice big, beautiful bow railing on the Marquis was badly
damaged this past year when a 55 gallon drum hit it. I was up stairs
moving some stuff around in y warehouse and bumped the drum and it
fell about 5 feet. Even though empty, the drum damaged the railing
and it was bent bad enough on the port side that it broke a couple of
mounts. Needless to say, it left a grievous feeling with me.

I figured it would be expensive to have it repaired that is if I could
find somebody locally who could do it, so this weekend I'm going to
pull the railing and instead of try to get it repaired, I'll install
cleats where each rail support was.

I still have the old cleats from the ancient Chris craft . They're
bigger'n what you would find on a runabout, but their available and
should do the job.

But first I'm going to check out the lid for cracks etc. then proceed.

I wish I could use the railing, but I dont' wish it that bad to have
it fixed, that is unless anyone has any suggestions.

BTW, I do have the railing from he Cavalier but it's w a-a-a-y to
big, but it's made of stainless!

If you know someone good at welding stainless steel they can probably
make it good as new.

Wayne. Those guys come at a premium around here. Very few welders in
my area do that type for stuff. OH, I'm sure somebody in my locale
does, in fact I know one place that does stainless, but they charge
by the second I think.

It might be worth taking it to them at least for a ball park quote.

Tim, might check a local vo tec school that teaches welding or high school
shop class.
Probably get it done for a donation of wire or whatever else that they are
short.

Thats a cool idea, but the best Jr. that has a good welding and
machine class is about 60 mi. away. But I know the dude that teaches
the class.

Now that's an idea!

Not at the moment Larry. If it ever quits raining around here so I can
dig the boat out I'll snap some, though.

Hope it works out, win- win for all. You get your rail fixed and the class
gets needed supplies.

Yeah, I'll see what they can do. The instructor of the shp class will
know, and soon when the weather breaks and i can get it out to work on
it, I'll take some pics of it and send it to him and see what he says.
This bow is a bit wide to transport as a whole, but I think it can be
broked down at the pulpit joint and then take them both halves.

If it seems like it would be too much of a job or wil take quite a
while, I'll cleat the boat and donate the other materials to the shop
class. It's not that I need it, but it would look better on there, I
imagine. But then again, I dont'have it off yet to see.

But thanks for the ideas.
