Default More boating!

Alright, you slackers...

Today is sunny and 74, tomorrow is sunny and 77 degrees. Spring has
nearly sprung here in SC. I've got a couple of new items for the
boat, and will be out on the lake tomorrow for a few hours.

Who else will be boating this weekend?

I wish I was there. Here in IL. it's suppose to rain and possibly snow
Sunday. But unil then, I've got my small boat ready to hit the lake
when it warms up to a consistant basis, and will be prepping the big
boat to do at least a three-day river cruise later on in the summer.

It's nice to see an attempt for a boating thread. . It beats watching
people insult each other, especially over nothing.

BTW, we've had three days of excellent weather here so far. In the mid
60's with bright sunny days. and I love it now that we've had a time
change and the days are starting to get longer.

But it IS still March!

I visited my local marina. The owner and his contractors are rebuilding
the docks alongside the ramps, doing a bit of dredging at the far end,
moving gravel, replacing electricals at some of the slips, et cetera.
The ramps are usable. Saw at least a couple dozen guys scraping the
bottoms of their boats, painting, et cetera.

*Sure* signs of spring, finally.

Good to hear it, Harry. Yeah, the people over at the main marina at
Carlyle Lake are making a lot of overdue improvements, and really
cleaning the place up. It was nice to begin with, but they're putting
concrete in the yard and getting rid of the dusty gravel and pot holes
they've had for years. There is jsut sort of a sinking feeling to get
your sial boat all gussied up, only to come back a couple weeks later
to launch it from the hard, only to find that it's covered with lime
rock dust. Not to mention that if it rains you have dust streaks
runnign down the sides.

They have some members who have some pretty nice craft there, and I
think they were complaining. Or at least that's what I understand.

Breezy Point Marina, the one I use, has very low bulkheads and parts of
it often are "overflowed" at especially high tides. The property is in a
marshland, and while it is grandfathered out of being zoned out of
business, the county and state won't allow the owner to make really
substantial improvements, so the access roads and parking areas are
gravel. It's a never-ending battle for the owner, and there's always
dusty gravel and potholes. You just get used to them. But, as I have
stated many times, the ramps are great and deep and well-maintained, the
marina store is nice, it sells all sorts of stuff, including bait and
brewskis (for those who drink) and gas and diesel at reasonable prices.

My marina needs for Yo-Ho aren't complicated, so the place suits us
fine. Plus, it's only a couple of minutes from where we live.

Also have a boat at another marina...it's a bit fancier.

I heard on the radio, that 70 yesterday and forecast for an inch of snow in
Chicago Sunday. My condolences.

That seems odd. I wonder why the 'powers that be' are against it? I'd
thik they'd be all for allowing the improvements as it would boost the
economy and increase value to the property. Not counting better
satisfaction to the clientel.

Most strange, but then again. I'm not in charge, either.

Well, Vic ought to love that. At least he's used to it. I've also
heared that Western Missouri could get anywhere from 6-8 inches of
snow.

I hope it doesn't happen here. But I've heard mainly rain and a
possibility of snow and some ice. and if it does snow, it won't last
long.

But I've been surprised before.
