Default Can I dump my boat sofa in the chesapeake bay?

What about the foam filling from the cushions? Would that qualify as
"litter"? What about synthetic thread, which is probably similar to 6 lb
monofilament, which birds get tangled in?

Jeeeez....somebody shoot this monkey.

Would it be too intelligent to call the local office of your state's
environmental agency, and ask them?

The Red Green approach. I love it! And, ya never know what some of those
parts might be useful for in the future.

The other thing I could do is dissasemble the frame out of the sofa to
lighten it but I still like the over board route, much less to deal

with.
I wonder if it would be illegal.

First, it's repusive to me to think a boater would even consider dumping a
sofa into the sea.

But, "dissassembling" can be fun. We were throwing out an old sofa, and we
started by throwing it off the balcony onto the back driveway. Then we
thought of taking it apart a bit so it would be easier to take to the
dump. Out came the axes, the sledgehammers, the chainsaw...we had a BALL!!
You could probably charge money: $.50 per hit or something. Then take the
pieces to the dump. Easy.

Go ahead and dump it. By the looks of Isabel, the couch should end up

in
Lake Erie by next weekend...where it would rapidly decompose from the
pollutants.

Are you in a '70's time warp? Wake up guy. Lake Erie turned around

(water quality
wise) in the mid '80's.

What about health warning for the fish from that lake? As bad as Lake
Ontario?

Totally unrelated: Have you ever fished Long Lake? I'm going there on Oct 3
& 4.

With homeland security, U.S. Coast Guard. Maybe they are monitoring this
group for complete morons willing to dump garbage in the sea. Where we

get
our food and pleasure from. If they are. I hope you go to jail, and

rot
there till you can no longer pose a menace to society, and the boating
public.

You would need both US EPA and US COE permits. I promise you that either
permit application would weigh more than the couch.

I was thinking of going into 40 foot or deeper water and heaving it over

the
side. Does anyone have a problem with this?
In a few years the metal frame would be gone and of course the wood and
cloth would rot as well. It is an old sleep sofa and IMO, too hard to lug
back up the dock.

Jim,
But at least it isn't political, yet. Actually kind of humorous.

This is an unbelievably stupid discussion.

Scott, go back to your trailer park, marry your sister and give up

boating.

Yea, just be sure to radio the coastguard with the location when you get out
there so they can log it.

No I guess I am not. Considering I support a clean ocean. I belong to the
following groups.
Ocean Futures Society
Sierra Club
National Ocean Service
National Coalition for Marine Conservation
The Ocean Conservancy
I just hate stupid people thinking the ocean is a dumping ground.
