My cousin flys the China Alaska route for UPS.

UPS is a pretty good company, even if your cousin works for them. I
find the US Postal Service significantly less expensive and no slower
for delivery of the "care packages" of food snacks I send to my
college-attending nephews in Illinois and Florida. Some of the extra
expense of UPS is due to the fact that around here, the parcels are
handled by small private companies that add about 20-25% to the cost
of UPS shipping rates.

Did your children skip college?

Nope. But right now, I only have college-age nephews.

My wife ordered a new boat cover for me. About two weeks ago I asked
her if she'd heard anything about it. She'd recieved a couple emails,
but hadn't been following the progress too closely. It was supposed to
have been delivered on 6 Jan. She called the company who asked her to
call UPS, which she did. UPS said they'd investigate and get back to
her in a week to ten days. About a week went by, and yesterday I got a
call from the cover manufacturer. UPS had credited the manufacturer,
who was in the process of making me a new cover.

UPS continues to be high in my esteem.

Having worked in the business I can tell you UPS is known for having
things "disappear";) I had a friend who worked in my company get some
Indy 500 tickets for me back in 84 and took them to the UPS office to
send them. They packaged them in the office and long story short, they
(UPS)never could prove they ever left that office. The office Manager
didn't even blink when I called, they knew... They ended up paying me
for the thickets, big deal, I had to drive out and scalp another pair.
Worked at a factory decades ago where the UPS guy used to sell hot ****
right out of the back of his big brown truck;)

I don't think I'd ever let them pack and ship anything valuable. I'd
pack it at home and not mention the contents.

If I'm mailing something, I use the post office. Hell, it's right
across the street, cheaper than UPS, and probably about as fast.
Usually speed isn't a concern.

My sister was a letter carrier for the USPS prior to going to college
and she always sends everything via USPS.

See if the cover manufacturer will throw in a burial shroud for you as
a bit of lagniappe.

Is that the best you've got, sad soul?

Of course not, Brucie Krueger. Why would I waste the "best" I've got on a
septic tank like this? To see the best I've got, you'll have to go to "the
other places."

.....and the sooner the better!

Well, the tickets were packaged there by a friend who got it for me a
week or so before the race. Remember, I worked for the company as a sub
contractor, so everybody knew we were getting tickets for the race, who
was getting them, and when they were being shipped. The thing that got
me really was the attitude the management had about such things. They
knew good well what happened, who did it, and just wrote out the check
to cover the cost and brushed it under the rug like every other time..

Snotty worked as a subcontractor for a package deliverer? Now that's a
man with real world job skills. D'oh.

Well, they usually do, John. And I've actually recieved good service
from them. But it seems like the old adage is true. "A good deed never
is noticed, but a bad deed is never forgotten"

Occasionally they'll put my stuff on the wrong truck, and instead of
the usual one day service ends up being two days. But that's rare,
that is unless I'm badly needing the parts I ordered!

Then it never fails to fail.
