Unbelievable ...

A Republican Senator from Alabama has put what is by all accounts an
extraordinary "blanket hold" on almost every single nomination that
President Obama has sent to the Senate.

This is what happens when the Democratic leadership plays nice with bullies.
The country loses. And if Sen. Richard Shelby is successful, this kind of
extortion will only get worse.

At least 70 nominees to important positions at the White House, the federal
judiciary, and crucial cabinet agencies - including those charged with
keeping us safe from terrorism - cannot move forward until this hold is
ignored or lifted.

This is not just the typical Republican obstructionism, but a brazen brand
of political extortion. According to reports, Sen. Shelby will lift his hold
on the President's executive appointees if the Senate agrees to pour
billions of dollars into Alabama via two federal programs:

- A $40 billion contract for Northrop/Airbus to build air-to-air refueling
tankers in Mobile, Ala.
- The construction of a $45 million FBI lab outside Huntsville, Ala.

Now I wonder how many nutcases on this forum support Shelby's action.

Not me. I am apalled at Shelby for the number of useless criminal tax
dodging turds he let slip through the cracks.

How dare Shelby take a page out of Senator Nelson's and Landrieu's
playbooks!!
Extorting the process in exchange for favors for your home state?
Preposterous!
String everyone up that has done that in DC!!

Oh wait... we'd better have a few hundred replacements ready to go.
Not a bad idea.

Big difference, since neither of those two used a hold. But, since you're
upset about Nelson and Landrieu's actions, you'll be happy to hear that the
bill didn't pass the Senate.

So, I'm sure you're even more outraged by Shelby's hold, since it has
nothing to do with the healthcare legislation.

The entire Obama administration has been an Epic Fail. They have had
filibuster proof majorities in both houses and have accomplished
NOTHING AT ALL. With such majorities why have they been unable to do
anything? The reality is that Democrats ideas are so unrealistic that
even they cannot agree on them.

According to you that includes regular appointees. You're a pea-brain.

I think the Democrats should let the Republicans filibuster to their hearts
content.

Now, froggy, you've posted a perfect example that demonstates your
political naivete. The Democrats do not have a "filibuster proof"
majority in either house. What the Democrats have is a simple majority
in the house, including a large number of blue doggers who vote like
republicans, and a similar situation in the Senate.

The days of party discipline are over.

What the Democrats need to do now is forget about 60 or even 59 votes in
the Senate and go for 51 vote simple majorities they can use to pass
whatever can be passed via reconciliation.

**** the republicans. They will not vote for any significant legislation
promoted by the other side, no matter what.

All the Dems can do is provide lame excuses for their total failure to
accomplish anything. What few ideas they have are pure fantasy, all
they can do is spend money to increase the number of bureaucrats while
accomplishing nothing of value. The recession is so bad that people
have stopped botherin to look for work so they no longer get counted,
the stock market tanks and Obama gets laughed at wherever he goes.
Their situation is so bad that the have to apologize to retards for
comparing the the smarter retards to Dems.

Democrats, you can do it any way you like as long as it is my way. Or
at least that is what I heard from Obama the other day.

There is compromize and there is bending over, and they are not always
that far appart. When it comes to bailout corruption and dumping
bankrupt companies issues on taxpayers, I think fraud, corruption,
conspirancy to fraud, bull****, horse****, marxist, evil, moral decay,
taxation slavery for corporations.
