Of course not. But thanks for making the point... when guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns..... Is that a talking point, Gene? Couldn't the profuse number of cheap handguns manufactured in the past several decades account for their easy availability? Golly, we should certainly thank the NRA and congress for ensuring everyone can be armed several times over, no matter their mental capacity or criminal history. I don't like cheap handguns. I buy fairly expensive ones.... :) |

![]() "Vic Smith" Just seeing this. You saying somebody was trying to rip off a parking space from somebody else? That's some heavy stuff. Think in the old days they called that kind of "perp" a rustler. No, maybe squatter. Anyway, probably ended in a gunfight. Well, maybe if they were sodbusters they'd go after each other with shovels. I didn't even know they made icepicks any more. Can't remember the last time I saw an ice pick. Probably 40 years. Never trust a woman who keeps an ice pick or straight razor in her purse. And if she has a peg leg she's probably even more dangerous. I heard once that to commit the perfect murder you stab the victim in the eye with an icicle. Similar to an icepick, but the weapon melts. Hard to get it to the crime scene in the summer without a good cooler. BTW, peg legs are usually associated with pirates, who spend a lot of time on boats. --Vic I grew up in Las Vegas. As a young man, I parked card on the Strip. Some of the old wise guys were still around. One was Israel "Icepick Willie" Willie Alderman. Google reveals some interesting reading on him. I saw him once, about 1967. He looked mean as hell with blank eyes. He was a very small fellow, too. One of the only times I ever saw anyone wear a wool tweed trench coat in Las Vegas. Steve |

Instead of laying in a hospital with a punctured kidney, he'd be home with his family, and the taxpayers wouldn't have to pay for the violent felon's room and board. Just hose down the parking lot and move on. Next person thinks twice before attacking with deadly force. Works for me. |

Is that your take, Gene? My take is that, if she had come at me with an ice pick, she would be the one with ".40 puncture marks." Once mayhem was in that darling little 18 year old's mind, we changed gears and the "why" didn't matter anymore. A baby faced 18 year old, armed with an ice pick, assaulting a perfect stranger over some imagined trivial event. Now, THAT is why we have CCLs...... Yes, a gun vs. an ice pick. And what if she pulled a gun out and before you recognized the threat, she started firing? Sure didn't help the cops in Tacoma, even with open carry holsters. Think it'd be easier to get to your weapon than the trained cops? You betcha. |

So..... you think you might, due to human imperfection..... uncontrollably fall prey to this sort of violence......? I wouldn't bother to put myself in that circumstance if I weren't armed with an ice pick or a gun. I might conduct myself with an eye towards survival. If someone stole my parking space I'd been waiting for I'd likely give 'em the salute but I seriously doubt I'd get out to argue with them or pull a gun or an ice pick. Would you, Gene? |

I wouldn't fight over a parking space. I figure the other driver would be a deranged loser like jackoff, herring, little justhate or loogy...and since I rarely drive around "heeled," I'd have to kick 'em in the nuts real hard. |

No, not intentionally..... * but then, again, tripping all over talking points... you miss THE point. The guy that got stabbed didn't get the opportunity to make any of those decisions.... did he? *AND, lacking appropriate tools, he had no way to defuse the situation.... or prevent her from ventilating his kidneys..... ..... if he's lucky, he'll only spend Christmas and New Year's in the hospital.... he won't die slowly and painfully of a kidney infection. You're conducting an exercise in futility. |

![]() If someone stole my parking space I'd been waiting for I'd likely give 'em the salute but I seriously doubt I'd get out to argue with them or pull a gun or an ice pick. A skinny old fart once took my parking space. He saw me waiting, and slid in with a small car like in Fried Green Tomatoes. He got out. I got out of my car, but stood in the open door. "You're a brave man", I said. "Why's that?" he asked. "You just stole my parking space, and now you're going to leave me here with your car." I got in and drove to another space. He was standing by his car. I went in and got a few items, about ten minutes. When I came out, he was still standing by his car. As I drove off, I could still see him standing next to his car. At least I made him think about it. Steve |
