Not necessarily. My father was an American and even served in the forces, as were his parents and brother. I even lived in the US for 10 years. When I applied, they didn't think so. Don't worry, most Americans don't know much about their own laws. Being born to an American outside of the US does not mean you are American. It only does under certain circumstances painfully defined in 10,'s of thousands of lines of INS BS. |

A natural born citizen is one whose both parents were US citizens and resided in the US for at least 5 years after 16 before the birth. I did not realize this part of the law. Since both Parents of O were not US citizens he is in a different catagory. Still a US citizen, even if born outside the US. A Natural Born Citizen could be born outside the US. McCain for one, born in Panama. |
