On one side he was a boozer and a killer and was a bad influence on his relatives. He didn't do too well in school, God knows what else. On the other hand he was credited with helping to get a couple pieces of legislation through. Thats not much for 40 some years occupying a senate seat. He was a boozer, was responsible for that woman's death, but was not a "bad influence" on his relatives. The latter is just supposition. He didn't do that well in school. Why do some folks insist on canonizing the old fart? He had the family name of Kennedy and used that to secure himself a lifelong job. That's about all there is. He wasn't special.
