Erudition and recondite references win the day. BTW, what is the reference source? OED, Second Edition, Volume 3. I have the CD electronic version of that one, plus the 20-volume hardbound set of Second Edition and the supplements. Bought the hardbound set at an estate sale long before the CD versions were available, but I still use both. Though it feels strange rolling off the tongue, I'll have to admit that I'm envious. -- Posted via NewsDemon.com - Premium Uncensored Newsgroup Service -------http://www.NewsDemon.com------ Unlimited Access, Anonymous Accounts, Uncensored Broadband Access |

Const. against, at, of, to with n. or inf. And thou shalt not covet... (Actually I do have an electronic version of the OED. But it's buried in the scores of discs and dvd's I have littered across the house.) -- Posted via NewsDemon.com - Premium Uncensored Newsgroup Service -------http://www.NewsDemon.com------ Unlimited Access, Anonymous Accounts, Uncensored Broadband Access |

Jordon wrote: Wow, there are sure a lot of examples there. In order to prove your point you'd think that in all that you've copied and pasted that the words "present to be" would occur once. No such luck. And you'd think that if it were proper you'd get at least a few hits on Google with the exact phrase "present to be Christian". You get two, but they're both "...present. To be Christian...". Can you imagine that? No one on the web has written those words together in the context you've used? I pointed out the context to you. You did not point out any context except your own. Can you provide any examples that use it in the same context? A link, to anything? As in: "present to be" followed by a proper noun. And if it sounds like ebonics, it doesn't count. Hell, there's no rule that requires a name to be spelled a certain way, right, "Jordon"? My mother wanted to get her brother's name in there and his name was Don. -- Jordon |

You got Harry to utter a true sentence. Good job. Uh, that's not Harry. Obviously, he told the truth. Yeah, so obvious that you jumped on it like a skanky whore. What do you mean, "like a skanky whore"? What do you think herring is, if not a skanky whore? My bad. Should have read "like the skanky whore you are." |
