It means something to "H the K," else he wouldn't have made his particular appeal to Tim. He said "Christian with a conscience", so I suppose you could have said "Doesn't Beck have a conscience?". And that would have been pretty damn funny. But the full sentence... "You present as a Christian with a conscience." doesn't make any sense anyway. Sure it does. "You present as a Christian with a conscience." makes sense to you? Perhaps you may have left out an important word that clarifies who you're talking about? Maybe the word "yourself", if you were talking about Tim, would have made it clear? Otherwise I could have just as easily inserted the word "him" and it would sound like Tim has previously presented Beck as a Christian with a conscience, which, of course, would have been hysterical. One of the many meanings of the word "present" includes the way I used it. He "presents" as a Christian means he either directly or indirectly comes across as someone who follows teachings of the Christian religion with a conscience. We have a couple of dirtbags here who present themselves as Christians but who do not follow the teachings. -- Birther-Deather-Tenther-Teabagger: Idiots All |

One of the many meanings of the word "present" includes the way I used it. In which school do they teach that? Present = to introduce Present = a gift Present = in attendance Present = now In law, presents = this document(s) But I take it that you were referring to the meaning as "to introduce". "You introduce as a Christian" doesn't sound right. He "presents" as a Christian means he either directly or indirectly comes across as someone who follows teachings of the Christian religion with a conscience. We have a couple of dirtbags here who present themselves as Christians but who do not follow the teachings. ^^^^^^^^^ Now there you go. You used the word "themselves" to delineate your meaning and it becomes clear. Without specifying "who", you leave it up to the reader to guess. I just can't find any examples of your way of using the word, here... http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/present Is it an ebonics thing? -- Jordon |

Wow, there are sure a lot of examples there. In order to prove your point you'd think that in all that you've copied and pasted that the words "present to be" would occur once. No such luck. And you'd think that if it were proper you'd get at least a few hits on Google with the exact phrase "present to be Christian". You get two, but they're both "...present. To be Christian...". Can you imagine that? No one on the web has written those words together in the context you've used? I can show you the way to the water, but if you want to drink, it is up to you. I pointed out the context to you. There's no rule in English that requires a dictionary to provide an example of every way a word may be used. There's also no requirement in English that every phrase one uses results from a previous, similar use. Hell, there's no rule that requires a name to be spelled a certain way, right, "Jordon"? -- Birther-Deather-Tenther-Teabagger: Idiots All |
