You notice he has backed off of all of his "change" rhetoric since his Jimmy Carter moment (roughly defined as the day he realized the president is largely a ceremonial office) Gore has their ear and is the high priest in the carbon tax crusade. That cult has taken over the left. How do you come to the conclusion that Obama is a puppet? The majority of Americans put him in office and by a wide margin in the electoral college. Every president since Nixon was a puppet of the monied people who put him in office. It is getting worse each cycle. Well, in that sense ok. Nobody comes up with a billion dollars without owing a lot of allegiance to a lot of rich people. You also have party pressures. That is what knocked down all of Carter's lofty goals. I only bring him up as an example of an "outside the beltway" guy who came to town promising to change the way government worked. He was ground up and reduced to a gray paste in 3 months, much like Mr Obama. The jury is still out with Obama. I hope it won't happen. We need it not to happen. I guess it's got to be someone's fault, so Gore is it Gore is the spiritual leader of the carbon tax cult, no more, no less. In that regard he is the democratic equivalent of Jerry Falwell or Rick Warren who also were not government officials but had a lot of influence on Bush's policies and controlled a lot of votes. I'm unconvinced by either those groups... carbon tax vs. cap and trade. I should read more about it. We probably don't have much to argue about ;-) I'm sure we can find something! lol I stopped being a Republican about a year into the GHWB administration but I still can't be a Democrat. I stopped in high school. I really place the decline of America as starting about 1989-1990 and going steadily downhill since then. It started a bit before that... pre-1961: http://coursesa.matrix.msu.edu/~hst3...ts/indust.html That was when we started looting our corporations in the name of increasing quarterly profit numbers. They were selling off capital assets, shipping the jobs offshore and calling it profit. By the mid 90s they had sold about everything there was to sell and they started this "money out of thin air" mumbo jumbo with financial instruments that grew in price but didn't actually build any value. The commodities modernization act of 2000, I spoke of earlier, really opened the door for abuse and it was unanimously passed by both houses with the endorsement of the White House. Only 4 congressmen opposed, it led by my hero, Ron Paul. Well, we don't have much to argue about. Ron Paul is a wacko, but at least a nice one. -- Nom=de=Plume |

... To bribe the voters. Obama knows his policies are not working and political support is dicipating, so he bribes those he can with our money. Or should I say our credit-debt? He knows this because most economists think otherwise. Ok. Obama is destined to be the biggest debt increase of any government leader in the history of the world. It will takes decades, perhaps generations to recover from. Or, the economy will recover as it's on track to do. We'll move forward with infrastructure improvements, job losses will slow and eventually recover, we'll create a more stable long-term viable economic base. Or, the sky is falling, the sky is falling. -- Nom=de=Plume |

When I see you mocking someone's faith, then I'll address the comments to you. You asked me if I was mocking Christianity "like so many of the other liberals." You specifically addressed me. I don't appreciate it. I've certainly done nothing to warrant this. Several of the other liberals here get their jollies by mocking Christianity. I asked, based upon your 'what would Jesus do' comment in the middle of that discussion, if you were doing the same thing. If you were not, an appropriate answer would have been a simple 'no'. Case closed. Your case may be "closed," but it sounds like it's your mind that's closed. Re-read my response and get back to us when you understand that personal attacks, especially upon someone's religion are inappropriate. Attacks or ridicule about someone's religious beliefs are *extremely* inappropriate in my opinion. That's why I would never have attacked your religious beliefs. Now, cry yourself a river, build a bridge, and get the f*** over it, Mr. Plum. -- John H |

We absolutely need to address the global implications of China's plants. Doing something by ourselves (talking greenhouse gases) isn't the ultimate solution. It needs to be a global effort. We have (and will have more) influence around the world. We need to use our influence and power for good. Our "power" is diminishing rapidly. The country is broke and nearly broken. The first thing we need to do is to repeal the all of the entitlements at the federal level and tell those who receive them that they are going to have to take on for the team again. Yeah, screw the poor created by the mis-notion of free market capitalism. What would Jesus do? Are you into mocking Christianity like so many of the other liberals here? Why would you think I'm mocking something that I grew up with and still hold dear? You know nothing about me. I think you're grasping at straws. How dare you question my faith. At last, you realized it was a question. Why be so defensive? You're questioning my faith and it's none of your business. Why are you being such a jerk? Answer my question. What would Jesus do... support free market capitalism that was and is responsible for disenfranchising the poor or would He support the poor? No. I'll not try to guess what Jesus would do. Basically, you refuse to answer the question. I'll answer for you... He would take the side of the poor not the corporations. Feel free to disagree. I refuse to enter a religious discussion with you. This is obvious. Now the question is (not really a question) why. Why what? -- John H |

I have a question for you. Since you appeared here out of the blue, so to speak, and you have yet to enter into any boating discussions. Are you connected to the bricklayers union in any way? |

Bricklayers? Nope. I worked for the Teamsters for a summer many years ago. I've been lurking a while. Actually, there haven't been that many posts about boats. I used to own a Hobie 18 (well, co-own) but nothing right at the moment. Who's Scott Dixon though? -- Nom=de=Plume |
