Default Alumacraft 1236 Jon Boat

Has anyone had any experience with an Alumacraft 1236 jon boat? I'm
looking for stability, something I can load in the back of my long bed
and the feeling that I'm not gonna sink it when I place my 245 pound
body on that rear seat. I've checked the Lowe, Fisher and Waco boats
too but the Alumacraft seems to have the best numbers in beam width,
depth and maximum capacity.

I'll be driving it with a 30 lb. thrust electric trolling motor. Any
ideas/input?

Hi KBC,

This my area, small flat bottom boats. We fly fish out of 8, 10, 12, 14 and
16 foot flat bottom boats. Both aluminum and fiberglass.

Try to find something that is more than 36" at the bottom/rear.

Valco makes an aluminum pram/Jon boat that is 44" at the bottom/rear with a
55" beam. They come in 8, 10, 12 and 14 feet with everything else remaining
the same but the length. It is only .050" thick and riveted but is a good
boat @ ~$1,000.00US.

The 10 foot model is about 100# and will be perfect for just you.

I'm sure Alumacraft makes a fine boat, but I must suggest the
obvious...build a boat!! You could crank out an 11 1/2 foot, 45 inch wide
flat bottom skiff in no time using the kit from
http://unclejohns.com/skiff/Default.htm. Total cost, if you don't get too
elaborate should be under $300. Think about it......
