Default Rats! No boating today.....

I promised the gret nephews I'd take them and my niece out to the lake
for some serious tubing today, but one of the boys has a bad dose of
the flue and as I speak it's 58 degrees outside. HUH!? yeah, this is
the year that spring never ended. I dont' think tomorrow afternoon is
tied up so I'll see what I can do if the kid isn't still sick, but
probably wopn't be going then either.

Oh well....

Kind of a disapointment actually. I love spending time with the kids!

If you was like Harry and hate kids and don't let them ever out of their
rooms you'd not have a worry!

I'm sorry to hear about your nephew. This has been a strange summer
for southern Illinois. It's similar to the summer of record we had
here about 5 years ago when the entire summer was unusually cool. I've
covered most of the U.S. over the years, except for the Pacific
NorthWest, and I'll argue that southern Illinois in late summer is one
of the most miserably hot places in the country and that because of
the incessant humidity. I've had people tell me that Houston is noted
for its humidity. I've spent time in Houston in the late summer, and
I was stationed in west Texas for a summer when I was in the military.
Those places are wimpy compared to southern Illinois. It's an odd
thing to be sure. This summer and these temperatures are a real treat
as far as I'm concerned.

I'm getting ready to head down to the houseboat on Ken Lake, myself.

No Don, It's you're typical ( I think) head and chest stuff. enough to
bog you down for a couple days. And in this type of cool weather, you
get wet then you get chilled running around in the boat.

so, if it warms up next wekend we'll probably hit it unless something
else pops up... and that happens too frequently any more for some
reason...

Yes it has been a strange summer. This is the year that spring never
ended it seems. and yes, Usually this time of year the weather is
scalding and the yards look like they've been sprayed with Round Up.
But not this year. Amazing.

The niece and her sons live in Edwardsville, and Lake Carlyle is a
good in between meeting spot. About an hr from them and an hr. from me
traveling time, so boating sems to be a natural thing to do and
everyone has a blast.

I like spending time with the kids because their dad is non existant.
(LOOOOOZER!), so I suppose I'm an uncle and a parent at the same
time.

I really enjoy the connection.

I'm glad you brought that up, Don.

In my opinion I think the "Swine flu" is going to be blown out of
proportion as bad as the "West Nile Virus" was...

Just my opinion, though.

Warm...we've had enough of warm here. Summer finally kicked in with sunny
30F temps for a full week or so. Hard to take when you aren't used to it.
Next week we'll be back in the low 20s. That 4th week of August always
brings the big change.
