Default Bayliner runs for a minute then dies

Hey Guys, I have a 86 Bayliner Capri with Penta 350. My problem is I
can get it started and then it will just die after a minute of idle.
When I give it gas, it bogs down and dies too. This problem just
started. I have replaced the fuel filter and fuel pump. Should I also
replace points? Carb is pumping the gas with no prob. it seems from
visual inspection.

Thanks

Does it restart right away after it stalls or do you need to wait a
little while? If you need to wait chances are that the small
screen/filter that is usually right at the carburetor has got loose
debris floating around in it. Try cleaning or replacing. You may
also need to clean the carburetor bowl if you can get at it.

I'd check the coil also. Sounds similar to a problem I had with a
Mercruiser 5.7L.

If you have a timing light you can get some kind of idea how the
electrics are working. Clamp the pickup on the coil lead and watch the
flash. I also have a squeeze bottle with gas in it that you can
actually keep the engine going with by squirting it in the carb to
help isolate these fuel/spark problems but be careful.

Got it figured out. The fuel pump I replaced my old one with was from
a lot of used boat parts I had and was bad....it was the fuel pump the
whole time. Got a new one and runs like a champ. Thanks for the help!

Glad you got it going.
