BoatUS marine insurance case files show that 44% of sterndrive boats
that sunk at the dock had a leak in the bellows.

Worse, leaking bellows were the cause of 20% of sinkings when the boat
was underway.

Most manufacturers urge bellows replacement every five to six years.
