She clearly places the mouthpiece to the right of center. It's an unusual use of embouchure, but it obviously works for her. Her tone is very good. I can only imagine how many instructors have tried to correct her style into something more conventional. Hey, if Dizzy Gillespie could allow his cheeks to expand like a bullfrog and play at his level, I figure she should be allowed to blow out of the side of her mouth. I'm no trumpeteer (?), but I thought the placement was a little right also. Didn't seem to bother her much. I like the fact that she didn't try to embellish the arrangement by adding a lot of bells and whistles to every other note. She plays it straight and pure. The Dutch are pretty much that kind of people. -- John H All decisions, even those made by liberals, are the result of binary thinking. |
