Everything about the "flying experience" these days, from booking a ticket to hoping your luggage made it, pretty much sucks. Flew often enough (passenger) when I was young, including small stuff like Cessna and Norseman float planes in Canada. At some point - think it was coming into Glenview NAS in an old crate during a thunderstorm after a reserve trip to Pensacola - I decided I won't fly any more. 1975 I think. Simple decision. Told my employers up front. Couple times I drove to Buffalo for training. No big deal, as I like road trips and made some money on the mileage reimbursement. Only exception was in '95 when a bigshot selected me represent the office at a Lake Tahoe event. Too far to drive on relatively short notice, and I decided to accept it as the honor it was and not make waves. Uneventful flights. Won't fly again though. No hurry, and if I decide to go to Europe or Australia, boat berths are available and waiting for me. --Vic |

I'd rather be in a small plane than a big commercial flight, though. |
