Years later, I guess in the early 1980's, another friend, a printer who did all the forms printing for several clients, died when his biplane crashed into a highway bridge. That sorta did it for me. I really dislike flying, even commercial. I like the time savings to get to a distant location, but that's it. Everything about the "flying experience" these days, from booking a ticket to hoping your luggage made it, pretty much sucks. -- Whatever moral rules you have proposed, abide by them as they were laws, and as if you would be guilty of impiety by violating any of them, *unless* you are a conservative Republican office holder or minister. If that is your position in life, then anything goes. |

Everything about the "flying experience" these days, from booking a ticket to hoping your luggage made it, pretty much sucks. Flew often enough (passenger) when I was young, including small stuff like Cessna and Norseman float planes in Canada. At some point - think it was coming into Glenview NAS in an old crate during a thunderstorm after a reserve trip to Pensacola - I decided I won't fly any more. 1975 I think. Simple decision. Told my employers up front. Couple times I drove to Buffalo for training. No big deal, as I like road trips and made some money on the mileage reimbursement. Only exception was in '95 when a bigshot selected me represent the office at a Lake Tahoe event. Too far to drive on relatively short notice, and I decided to accept it as the honor it was and not make waves. Uneventful flights. Won't fly again though. No hurry, and if I decide to go to Europe or Australia, boat berths are available and waiting for me. --Vic |

I'd rather be in a small plane than a big commercial flight, though. |

Harry was such a gifted student that he only needed one lesson and the instructor gave him his multi engine ticket on the spot. Now his father flew airplanes all over the northeast without every having a formal lesson, and was so good that he got a fireboat welcome in NYC for taking the controls of a passenger aircraft and landing it safely after the pilot had a heart attack. |

Maybe it's just Harry's attitude that gets him sent to the back of the line? That and the fact that the fat ass must walk a little at the airport. |
