eveyrone has done in the newsgroup and knows much more about it than
the person who does it?

My boss at my previous job was a Marine Corps Colonel (Res) with a PhD
in physics. Under Bush 1, he was the Marine Corps nuke weapons expert
and advised the JCS during Gulf War 1, not exactly a stupid man.
During my time doing defense work, I met some of the smartest people I
have ever known, all members of the military.
