A friends kid just got in an auto accident because he was looking at
his cell phone. So, lets think of ways to make cell phones not work in cars. Indium tin oxide is a transparent electrical conductor that can be applied to glass by evaporation. If we put it on the auto glass would it block cell phone signals? Yes, it would only be done on new cars. Yes, you could always roll the window down and use the phone. Oh, he was not hurt thank god. Look over yesterday on way to dinner with wife and young lady in an expensive car is using the phone to her ear. Should have got the phone option or for $75 bought a Motorola Bluetooth speaker phone. |

The problem is irresponsible cell phone users who don't pull over before making or receiving a call, not that you can use a cell phone inside a car. This'll be fun. Krausie, what are your dozen reasons why that idea "sucks"? The idea to make sure it is impossible to use a cell phone inside of a car, does sound like a proposal made by a Democrat, I am surprised Harry did not love the idea. While I would not support mandating new requirements that would increase the cost of a car, (unless it could be implemented without increasing costs or would be offset by lower insurance costs). It is possible that one could block cell phone calls, without adding to the cost of a car, but still if I still had kids living at home, I would seriously consider installing something that would not allow them to use their cell phones in the car. The key is to "jam ' the freq. inside the car, but not effect the ability to receive a call outside of the car. Harry Krause's comments show that he not an inventor, an entrepreneur or has any ability to solve problems. While I am not commenting on "Katie's" idea, most inventors and entrepreneur have many unsuccessful concepts before hitting on a winner. Also, most inventors will try many solutions to solve a problem before they decide on the final solution. -- Reginald P. Smithers III, Esq. This Newsgroup post is a natural product. "Loogypicker" wrote in message ... Open the window. How many of these little scenarios do you want? None, they are idiotic. ------------------------------------ Indium tin oxide coatings on windshields was tried by Ford a few years back as a means of de-icing the windshield by passing current through the conductive coating. Wasn't one of Ford's better ideas and the concept was dropped. The coating was too thick (in order to pass the necessary current) and was not particularly transparent. It had a bronze look. It is used on commercial aircraft windows for de-icing purposes and on avionic displays to eliminate fogging and sheild from EMI. Indium tin oxide also works much better on the mylar film used in electrostatic speakers! Thin enough to do the job and totally transparent. :-) As for cell phones, rather than mandate more government design regulations, why not enforce existing laws? If involved in an accident and it is proven (easily done) that you were using a cell phone at the time, your insurance company doesn't pay any claims and you are subject to prosecution. Eisboch |

Unfortunately, young drivers will always have something to distract them enough to wind up in an accident. The radio was a big culprit when I was a kid... prolly still is. The biggest distraction when I was a kid, and probably still, was 5 other kids in the car thinking of cool things to do. |

Probably a lot of return dumbass customers. great source of revenue for the state and local gov'ts. For people caught texting while driving, officer is allowed to drag the offender out the window by the hair and pistol whip them. Also applies to people putting on makeup, reading the paper, leaning over the back seat beating the kids, wacking thier pud, etc. Yes Virginia, a lot of people ARE too stupid to take care of themselves. |

Don't you think it is unreasonable to pistol whip them, without putting some restrictions as to how many times they can actually hit them with the pistol? I would think 2 or 3 times should be the most for speaking on the cell phone. sacking their pud while driving deserves 4 whips with the pistol.
