Gotta question - do your engines have an EMM (Engine Management Module
- aka "computer") and if so, how is it cooled?

Heh, heh, heh.

1. Yes.

2. Very well, and thanks for asking.

Yes, Honda BF20 OB, not cooled at all as far as I know.

Yes, Mercruiser 6.2L EFI I/O, ditto.

The EMM knows all and tells all, except when it doesn't. Sensor
reliability appears to be more of an issue than the EMM itself.

Tom,Computers on cars and large diesel equipment arn't cooled via
special aperatus. So I don't see why they would be on a marine
application.

--------------------------

I recall reading that they are. They are mounted on a heat sink that in
turn is mounted on a surface that the heat is removed from by the engine's
water cooling system. The outboards don't have the ambient, convective
cooling that cars and trucks have.

There were some early, computer controlled outboards that had some problems
due to inadequate cooling of the computer, although I don't remember which
engine manufacturer it was. I don't think it was Etec and whoever it was
redesigned it to resolve the problem.

This from the alleged mechanical engineer.

Heat is not a friend of microchips, that's for sure.

Hmmmmm.... gonna have to pull a cover to be sure, but I think mine is
water cooled...

I'm sure the block, crankcase, intake manifold, fuel system and the
oil are water cooled. The cowl is also fan cooled and then there is
that odd looking vent at the top rear.....

That's a little different than mine, but it's close.

Does that mean your etec's aren't so special? :)

My Yamaha F225 had a water-cooled EMM, too. I presume my F150 also has one.

Gosh.
