Hmmmmm.... gonna have to pull a cover to be sure, but I think mine is water cooled... I'm sure the block, crankcase, intake manifold, fuel system and the oil are water cooled. The cowl is also fan cooled and then there is that odd looking vent at the top rear..... That's a little different than mine, but it's close. Does that mean your etec's aren't so special? * :) My Yamaha F225 had a water-cooled EMM, too. I presume my F150 also has one. Gosh. It does. I looked at some motors tonight on our evening boat ride Mercurys breath from the back of the case pulling air across the ECM. The port side is where the water jacket is so it runs hotter, the ECM is on the starboard side and that is straight air to the intake flowing across it. Yamaha's seem to have vents in the front sides of the case so that air won't be cooling the engine and maybe that is why they water cool the ECM. For years in the past, Nissan PU trucks had the ECM bolted right under the passenger seat with no excessive ventilation. always seemed to run good until some kid would decide to kick it if 4WD and go "swimming" |
