I've run across his name many times in trying to get educated about
boats.
I suspect some here have been in boats of his design.

I'm betting Harry will be here saying how he knows him very well, has
boated with him, had him luncheon aboard his lobster boat, and got
advice from him when he was a competitve sailor.

I saw that elsewhere. There were several Bolger-designed sailboats in
Milford harbor when I was growing up in that area, including a couple of
"sharpies." I wonder if any of those beautiful old wood sailboats are
still floating...

We had an L16, a beautiful molded ply sailboat designed and built by
Bill Luders in Stamford. Luders designed the American Eagle, an
America's Cup contender in the mid 1960's that Ted Turner raced
successfully around the world. I'll bet Luders and Bolger knew each other.

What's really funny is 90% of the "****ty rowboats" I have built
(according to WAFA) were Bolgers or inspired by Bolger... Now that
WAFA wants to be in on the boating post, he all of a sudden thinks
Bolger boats are beautiful.. I knew it snerk Harry, WAFA....

Rest in Peace Phil.. You made small boats available to the "non-elite"
in the world..

What's really funny is the fact that I predicted you'd come here and
lie about at least some sort of relationship with the builder, and you
did!

I don't know how the same person could have designed ugly ducks like
the Micro and AS-29 and beauties like the Chebacco boat and the
Lobster Skiff.

I like this quote from someone on the WoodenBoat forum:

"He designed his death like he designed his boats: ugly, even
grotesque to some, but inarguably practical and efficient in the final
analysis."

Harry can chew on this...

"Some boats are better than others; but it's not important that they
be better," he (P'B) says in a conversation about the uses to which
various types are put.

He means this "any sort of boat will do" in the general sense that a
boat roughly suitable to its purpose can achieve its purpose, and in
the social sense that it's good for people to enjoy themselves on the
water whatever they're in, so long as they don't get drowned."
