If you expect anything else from the one, you're not living in the real world -- bill-o It's funny watching the wingnuts scramble trying to find something to smear her with. What I have witnessed today are a bunch of right- wingers scrambling to find something to oppose this pick on without making it look like what it is .... politics as usual. I even heard one wingnut mouthpiece claim that Sotomayor was only appointed to the Federal bench by George Bush as some sort of political gesture of goodwill to the Democrats, the obvious implication being that she wasn't really qualified for the job. I mean, how can she be qualified .... she's a WOMAN for Chrissakes ... and a Latino! The irony is that had Obama appointed some old pasty white guy, as is the norm, all the Repugs would be crying, "Where's the change you promised? Same old politics as usual!" It's early in the game, but I haven't yet heard one person give a valid reason to oppose her. No doubt, the Repugs will try to dredge (or is that Drudge) up some out-of-context remarks she made in some decision years ago in an attempt to smear her, but I suspect her confirmation will go fairly smoothly, assuming all her tax returns are in order. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Princeton. The wingers screaming above couldn't get into Princeton on the back of a garbage truck. Or the turnip trucks they keep falling off of, as the case may be. |

I believe I can handle it w/o getting ugly or hysterical. As a believer in individual rights & reponsabilities I often differ with the heard. -- bill-o |

If the GOP moves to the center, esp on fiscal and defense matters, you can just say whig. On the other hand I don't think the "values" issues are a real winner for the party of Lincoln. -- bill-o |

No need for out of context remarks: google Didden v Port Chester. Sotomeyer and her co-justices did a hellofa job here. -- bill-o |

Why is it that conservatives like Thomas and Alito, who lean so far to the right that they're practically horizontal are considered "patriotic," rational people who will calmly uphold the letter of the law and anybody to the left of them is invariably described as a hyperventilating, extremist, ultra liberal? Why is it so hard to be a right wing extremist and so ****ing easy to be a left wing one? Because we all know it's payback time on whitey! And to me Whites voting for minorities that are considered to be lefties will get what they deserve one day. When that day arrives, God help us all. |

Seriously, who really gives a crap what the right-wingnut think or say about anything? Either the GOP moves to the center or...it dies. It could hang out on the margins indefinitely. The problem is there's no viable party to take it's place. The last thing we need is a one party system. If the people feel it necessary to start a new party or enliven an existing alternative to the GOP, they will do so. The Democrat party is its own opposition party. There is no "Democrat party." |
