Crappy town, one of the worst for a large city in the country, and when you fly over it on a clear day at a low altitude, you can see some of the reasons why. What do you see that turns you off of Atlanta, Harry. I've flown into and drove though Atlanta many times and the town didn't bother me. What'd you see? On my first visit to Atlanta, I attended a union convention. During a half day off, I wandered out to the surrounding area with a bunch of union buddies, most of whom were black. We stopped at a small store near an historical site and while looking at the merchandise, I saw a recruiting poster for the KKK. I thought it was a reprint of a poster from long ago and far away, but no, it was for a meeting two weeks in the future. My comrades were horrified and so was I. Second, it is hot as hades there. Third, the traffic sucks. Fourth, the downtown area (you know, the area with big buildings) seems to be concentated along one street. Boring. Fifth, there seems to be little zoning enforcement, with a strange mix of businesses, factories, warehouse, and housing adjacent to each other. Sixth, it is hours away from the coast. Seventh, the "feeling" I get there is of a city trying much too hard to show that it really is a major metropolis when all it is is an overgrown southern town. There's more...but why bother...I'm sure Loogy will go rip**** over this little list. It isn't my disike for "da Souf" reving up. I do like some Southern cities, larger and smaller. To me, though, Atlanta has no character. It's a hodge-podge. P.S. The only "inland" southern city I like is...Baton Rouge. I avoid two states altogether - Mississippi and Alabama. Wouldn't go to either for love or money. I came of age in tbe 1960's, and I recall one horrific event after another in those two states, culminating on Sunday, September 15th, 1963.- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - Bigot.
