Yes, evidently what it meant to dad, was different than what it meant to you or even to me. funny how phrases can change at no given notice. I.T.P. around Atlanta stands for Inside the Perimeter, as opposed to O.T.P., Outside of the perimeter! I-285 is a big circle around Atlanta, and people are either Innies or Outies! Loog, what John and I were duscussing was in a letter he wrote to Mom while in the army in 1944. I.T.P "usually" means "Individual Transitional Program" Which in later times was available with leaving the service to prepare again for civilian life. But evindently in dad's case it was right after basic training and waiting to be deployed to the Philippines. that's why I said it must have had a different meaning in his generation than it does in mine. Pretty interesting on how things change in different time periods. Now you mentioned going around Atlanta? I wasn't familiar with that ITP or OTP, but I have heard different meanings of the "M.A.T.A.R." Hope to make a clarification : "Loog, what John and I were discussing was in a letter he (my dad) wrote to Mom...." Instruction to proceed. |
