A good line...

"Others, like Harley Shaiken, at the University of California,
Berkeley, argue that if G.M. focused more intensely on technology and
auto quality, it could concentrate production in the United States and
still be competitive."

I wonder why G.M. couldn't focus more intensely on technology and auto
quality and *still* produce cars in Mexico and China?

Just last week GMy closed a truck manufacturing plant in Ontario.
I think the Canadian gov't should forget about stuffing billions into this

The Asian automanufacturers will go where the labor laws are most
favorable. This means as far away from the UAW/CAW as they can get. The
European and Asian auto manufacturers have already proven that there is
a viable non-union workforce in the southeastern US.

Interesting...a national cable tv program called 'Car Business' did an item
on the new billion dollar assembly plant in Woodstock Ontario.
Yes...this is a Toyota plant producing RAV4s' for the North American market.
(my RAV4 was assembled there)
Seems it was planned to have 3 shifts pumping our 200K SUVs per year but the
downturn has them operating one shift producing 70K RAV4s'.

Gets worse if you dig into it further, for example, Chryslers CEO is Harvard

They will go where they can get a favorable position on cost, efficiency and

Practicing business the way it should be. Something the CAW/UAW will never

Harvard, Obama
Harvard, Bush
Harvard, Wagoner

Is that a hint?
Er....good point.
Except that Bush was at Yale, courtesy of daddy.
GWB was a graduate of Harvard Business School - MBA.
Stand corrected. How the hell did he get through that program, or any
program for that matter. My regard for Harvard has just dropped
several notches. I count many graduates as my friends and have
generally been impressed with their thinking skills, world view. They
failed Bush in a big way. He's gone on to successfully wreck several
businesses and a country.

Where've you been for the last 8 years.

Right here in the USA. Where have you been? Bum****?

You don't keep up with current events.

Look down to the right, Harvard and Yale. Banks do Yale mostly. Check the
bailout section.

Just last week GMy closed a truck manufacturing plant in Ontario.
I think the Canadian gov't should forget about stuffing billions into
this dead horse and encourage the best of the Asian companies to build
plants here.

When, where, or why did the Canadian government spend "billions" on GM?
I'm not saying it isn't true but I would love to see if it is. Tax
credits only go so far.

Total waste of hard earned Canadian taxpayers dollars. To size per capita
to the US, multiply by ten. So $4B Canadian has about the same per capita
impact as $40B.

Jack ass bailout governments.

Dubya was a legacy at Yale, and got into Harvard only because of family
connections. Dubya was turned down for admission to a third-rate Texas
law school. I'm not sure what the value of an "MBA" edu-ma-cation
is...Bush was a failure at business in Texas, and he was a failure as
chief executive of the United States.

Bush actually had slightly better grades than his contemporary Gore,
but I agree they were both well connected and that is how they got
past admissions.
It's one thing to get past admissions, it's another to graduate.

Both Yale and Harvard are known for rigor. I haven't a clue how Bush
could have mustered any rigor beyond drinking and snorting in the most
concentrated fashion.

Gore is obviously capable of rigor.
Gore flunked out of divinity school and law school.

A Republithug mantra. I dare say that the country would be in a hell
of a lot better shape if Bush hadn't gotten into office.

It's the truth. Albert S. Gore Jr. flunked out of Divinity school and
law school. This left him with only one field of endeavor left, politics
and he screwed that up too.

He wasn't the most electrifying campaigner, I'll give you that. He
was a hell of a lot more honest and forthright than the idiot who
spent 8 years in office. We'd be in a hell of a lot better shape if
the Supreme Court hadn't ruled in favor of Bush over states rights.

I'm sure you'll disagree and tell us how we've shored up our security
and protection and used 911 to create better relationships with the
world.

Screw the world. We need to survive as a nation regardless as to whether
the world likes us or not.

Yeah, **** 'em. Especially the ones with natural resources like oil,
cheap labor and enough yen to purchase dollars.

That'll serve us well.

No ****. Amazing.

The guy must have paid others to take write papers and take tests.
It's obvious he couldn't get through school on his own merits.
