Democrat goes GOP
Is this the start of the downward spiral of the Dems? Could be...
COLUMBIA, SC (AP) - A Democrat in his second term in the South Carolina House is switching to the majority party. Rep. Dennis Moss of Gaffney says he votes more often with Republicans anyway. The 55-year-old retired Highway Patrol officer announced his decision Friday in Gaffney. His switch brings the GOP back to the 73-51 majority it held before the 2008 elections. The announcement follows last month's election of Republican Steve Moss from Blacksburg in a neighboring district. Moss replaced the late Rep. Olin Phillips, who served for three decades as a Democrat. It's the first party switch in the House since 2004, when Reps. John "Bubber" Snow of Hemingway and George Bailey of St. George filed for re-election with the GOP. Snow was defeated later that year. Bailey was ousted in 2006. |
