Doing my best to stimulate the economy
Just picked up my new 2009 Toyota RAV4.
Bit of an ordeal these days...... the salesman spends about 45 minutes with you going over every detail, al the options etc....then it's the business guys turn. Too bad it's such a crappy cold, windy, damp day up here... wife & son are working overtime tonight so it would have been a good opportunity for me to hit the open road with the dog. The lease return inspection went well...I had heard some horror stories about the 3rd party inspection company (AutoVin) that a lot of car companies are using now. This guy was good...maybe the heavy rain mellowed him out. I didn't have to pay for any excess wear & tear. Odometer read 29902 kilometers...I was allowed 60096. |

Ford had what seemed to be good lease rates that year plus a grand in free accessories plus I won another $500.00 playing their Lets Make a Deal promotion. It just seemed a fairly low cost way to have a 2nd vehicle. Did I say I 'purchased' the RAV4? No more leasing for me. |

Why do you find it attractive to lease instead of buy? He saw a low monthly price. Only time that a lease pays is if the car is for business use mostly. When I drove a car and the company paid a car allowance, I was limited on my depreciation deduction. Where as a leased car the whole payment was deductible on taxes. or the percentage used for business use was deductible. |

Yeah, way to go Don, that's the way to support the Canadian economy. Send the money to Japan. Well, I sent (not personally) a bunch of money to China today. But I'm still supporting the economy. I helped a local gun dealer get a good bulk discount. He needed the extra amount to qualify for a 25,000 round purchase . |

Thank you for letting us all know about that RAV4 purchase. The cool thing about those vehicles is that if it rolls over, you can right it all by yourself. Also, when you need a tow, you don't need to call a tow yard. You can just lift into the back of a friends full sized pick-up. I hope you purchased that huge 3500# towing package. That is if you got the V6 and not the V4. Your RAV4 purchase was almost as exciting as harry's septic tank pump-out. I still give the edge to the septic tank. The lease return inspection went well...I had heard some horror stories about the 3rd party inspection company (AutoVin) that a lot of car companies are using now. *This guy was good...maybe the heavy rain mellowed him out. I didn't have to pay for any excess wear & tear. *Odometer read 29902 kilometers...I was allowed 60096. Well, isn't that special. *Why do you feel it necessary to post your purchases here? I purchased a Subway $5 foot long meatball and cheese combo for lunch today. I bet you felt your arm stiffen while eating it....... |

It's predominantly an assembly operation as are all North American foreign vehicle plants. I was a supplier to the auto industry for 30 years, and in fact was involved with this operation while it was still a cow pasture, I believe it was called "CAMI" while it was developed, strangely, with the aid of GM of Canada, ironically now itself out to pasture. No more than 25 to 30% of the "content" is domestic - the rest is Asian.. If it makes you feel better, the Korean vehicles "built" in North America are less than 10% domestic content. Hey, what the hell, you can always work at Walmart! Check the material suppliers, the tooling companies and capital equipment operations in Mississauga and Windsor. *Dead. *Why's that??????? * See above. But you get good mileage!! * hahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahaha Careful... when someone has harry beat, he resorts to 3rd grade insults. I hope you have a thick skin!! lol --Mike Like your thick head? |

But I'm still supporting the economy. I helped a local gun dealer get a good bulk discount. He needed the extra amount to qualify for a 25,000 round purchase . I'm not a fan of Chinese small arms or ammo, but lots of guys are. I've seen a couple of interesting Chinese semi-autos, but the stamped out AK knockoffs, nah. How much ammo you keep around? Well, I'd say I have about 7-8000 rounds of 7.62x39, Cheap shooting. The SKS's are crude looking, simple yet effective for what they are but have some really neat features you don't find on about anything else, like a chrome lined bore (fights corrosion) a bayonet that is more than a toad sticker, it can be pressed into the ground and used as a monopod and they're very dependable, and danged cheap rifles to own shoot. But true, they don't win the beauty prize. I have over 3000 rd of 5.56 (223) and at least 1000 rd of 357, 44, and 45 in each caliber, and I'm not sure but I think I have about 1500 in . 303 Brit. and about 500 is 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser. I'm not sure Harry, but I'd have to see what I've got in 30-06, .308, .30 carbine and . 243, not counting various various shotgun shells. |
