I thought I'd slept on it wrong a couple weeks ago, but that usually clears up in a day . The problem I'm having is pain from the outside of the elbow on my right arm and it travels up to my middle fingers. I know of a few people who have experienced this and say there is a bad that one can wear around the fore-arm that can help to get rid of the pain and possible put all back in order, but I haven't explored the idea yet. It's starting to become difficult to grip hand tools. Anybody had any experience with this? Yup, started with a wrist and now it is both wrists and a knee. Mine turned out to be some kind of arthritis similar to Rheumatoid but with a normal RH blood count. Essentially they are baffled. The place to start is a sport medicine guy tho. They will find all the easy stuff. BTW the physical therapist was the real shining star in the whole miserable, 11 month, 4 different specialist, foray through the medical establishment. Bad typing, i did mean to say a "band" instead of a "bad" But this pain isn't like what one would normally consider as carpal tunnel, it's on the top side of my arm, instead of deep inside . But anyhow. More to the story. Like what Don was describing. about 16 years ago I crushed my right wrist, and I can use my hand fine, but I have limited use fo my wrist and ever since, it's had a dull pain that you can't get away from. you just learn that this is the way it is and isn't going to change. i use a lot of pheumatic tools like butterfly wrenches and half inch drive air guns. I'm right handed so it gets used the most and I feel that because of my work routine over the years, it's catching up to me. PLUS, I think that hanging around on a computer keyboard isn't really helping either. so I'm investigating getting a more "egronomic" keyboard, and chaning the position of the angle of my arm so it's not in the same place as it was. I apreciate what harry suggested abotu going to a dr. but I don't think it's anything serious, but it is worth getting some professional advice. About 35 mi. away is an excellent hand specialist who has had a fantastic practice for over 30 years, and I'm going to call to see about getting an apointment with him, probably tomorrow. My wife had a similar feeling and the Emergency room doc said it was tennis elbow. Couple days later and the blisters showed up. Shingles. Do get a shingles vacination if you ever had chicken pox. |

I had that problem when I first started spending a lot of time on terminals. I got one of those foam cuffs that broke me of the bad habit of rocking my hands back away from the keyboard while I was "waiting". Try to keep your wrist straight when you type and get away from the keyboard when you are waiting. I can't use anything but a wing shaped keyboard. Keeping my wrists straight or using a laptop feels like I'm typing with my hands duct taped together. STeve |

That may be where you are getting injured. it is, but it's kind of hard to hold a hammer or other hand tools with the wrist brace on. |

That may point out a bad habit you have that is making your problem worse. The one I had that worked the best was a wrap around with velcro closure. It had a plastic D ring where you'd pass the end through, cinch it up, then go backward to get the velcro to attach. Wear it on the thickest part of your forearm. The explanation I got was that the tendons in there "twang" like guitar strings, and putting it there cut the twang the most. Steve |

Wore the band around my arm, which helps when it acts up. It comes and goes. Sometimes a nuisance, sometimes nearly unbearable. Took two cortisone shots in it. Those hurt more than the tennis elbow. The first did nothing. The second helped a little. Doc said only thing after that was surgery. That knot that one hits on the outside edge of the frontal part of the elbow has grown over the years. Still brings me to tears when I whack that. What to do? Avoid all things that send a shock up your arm, like tennis, hammering, slapping your puppy, things like that. But then, sometimes everything bothers it. And some little nothing sets it off. Probably feel better when it quits hurting. Steve |
