Default Tennis elbow???

Oh man, my arm hurts. I thought I'd slept on it wrong a couple weeks
ago, but that usually clears up in a day . The problem I'm having is
pain from the outside of the elbow on my right arm and it travels up
to my middle fingers. I know of a few people who have experienced this
and say there is a bad that one can wear around the fore-arm that can
help to get rid of the pain and possible put all back in order, but I
haven't explored the idea yet. It's starting to become difficult to
grip hand tools.

Anybody had any experience with this?

Go see your doctor. Today or tomorrow. Don't wait. Really.

Sounds like Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. I've had it. Of course, Harry
thinks it's some horrible wicked death sentence!

It's probably some sort of repetetive stress injury similar to Carpal
Tunnel. Any idea what might have caused/provoked it? If so, give
it a rest for awhile. You can buy wrist braces that look something
like a bowling glove that will prevent sleeping with your wrist
crooked. Something like Advil will also help.

I have a similar problem on occasion but I know what's wrong.
In 1979 I was thrown through the windshield of my brother-in-laws ambulance
in a highway crash.
I must have hit my arm on the windshield frame on the way out...or when I
landed in the ditch...just a couple of feet in front of the vehicle.
I had a badly broken arm with nerve damage. Reminds me of a bit when you
hit your funny bone.
I sometimes take an extra-strength Tylenol.
As far as strength...I dilgently went to rehab for months on end and
actually ended up able to handle heavier weights than before the accident.
(I have a trophy to prove it)..

*Yup, started with a wrist and now it is both wrists and a knee.

Mine turned out to be some kind of arthritis similar to Rheumatoid but
with a normal RH blood count. Essentially they are baffled.
The place to start is a sport medicine guy tho. They will find all the
easy stuff.
BTW the physical therapist was the real shining star in the whole
miserable, 11 month, 4 different specialist, foray through the medical
establishment.

Bad typing, i did mean to say a "band" instead of a "bad" But this
pain isn't like what one would normally consider as carpal tunnel,
it's on the top side of my arm, instead of deep inside . But anyhow.
More to the story. Like what Don was describing. about 16 years ago I
crushed my right wrist, and I can use my hand fine, but I have limited
use fo my wrist and ever since, it's had a dull pain that you can't
get away from. you just learn that this is the way it is and isn't
going to change.

i use a lot of pheumatic tools like butterfly wrenches and half inch
drive air guns. I'm right handed so it gets used the most and I feel
that because of my work routine over the years, it's catching up to
me. PLUS, I think that hanging around on a computer keyboard isn't
really helping either. so I'm investigating getting a more "egronomic"
keyboard, and chaning the position of the angle of my arm so it's not
in the same place as it was.

I apreciate what harry suggested abotu going to a dr. but I don't
think it's anything serious, but it is worth getting some professional
advice.

About 35 mi. away is an excellent hand specialist who has had a
fantastic practice for over 30 years, and I'm going to call to see
about getting an apointment with him, probably tomorrow.

I see work gloves with a gel 'anti-vibration' system in a local store.
Wonder if they are any good?

I've seen those too, and I like that they have a strap around the
wrist. I wonder how they stand up to grease though?

Naw, I'd stick with rec.boats for medical advice. Add that to political and
financial guidance and we're getting pretty well rounded.
