Worth going or not

OK, now I find from my wife that we will only have 2 nights in the
Keys, I might be able to stretch it into 3. Maybe a couple days in
Lauderdale, maybe 3. Is it worth trailering the Tolman 20 nearly 600
miles one way? Man, I gotta have something to do down there otherwise
Lauderdale bores me silly. My wife knows I'll refuse to go if we dont
do anything interesting so she is sorta using the days in the Keys as
bait so I'll go see the in-laws.
For those kind enough to be concerned, it turns out my 12 yr old
daughter was diagnosed with diabetes officially today. Very, very
weird with no external symptoms, just high blood sugar. Now we have o
do the whole finger prick 3x a day and insulin injections once a day
routine. Better than some I know but dang, so sudden and out of the
blue.

Not really worth towing for a couple days. The extra fuel and time. Take
the money saved and hire a boat. Go on one of the snorkel or dive boats. In
Ft. Lauderdale go to Doc Holiday Marina and take the airboat tour. Fun.

Bill:

yer prob right about renting. I passionately hate airboats, too many
of em round here.

Sad to hear of your daughter's illness. A good friend lost his commercial
pilot's ticket and his livelyhood to that disease back in the 80's. Things
have come a long way since then in the treatment of the diabetes, and just
recently was approved for his 3rd class medical. Although he still cannot
fly for hire, he can at least fly again, as that was his passion.

Good luck with her treatment!

Yes or take one of the dive boats out of Key Largo/John Pennekamp
Park. They are reasonably priced and you'll get to do some cool reef
snorkeling.

Did you mention that you weren't much into fishing? I ask because the
Keys have great fishing and much of it can be accessed without a boat.

I'm very sorry to hear about your daughter. They've come a long way
with diabetes testing and medicines. Hopefully the injections won't
last long.
On another front, people tend to get it in their heads that the trip
from Lauderdale to the Keys is a cake walk. It isn't, it's a HAUL! I
wouldn't do it for just a couple of days. Instead consider going just
to Key Largo, it's beautiful there. There's the John Pennakamp coral
reef for diving and snorkeling, and on the west side, some very nice
calm blue clear water to explore. A hundred miles or less from
Lauderdale as opposed to almost 200 for Key west, and a LOT of that is
slow going.

I towed my Sandpiper 565 over 2500 miles round trip to a weekend rendezvous
in August 2007.
It was a bit tiresome, but worth it.

Thank you!
I realize it doesn't compare to 'poling' your flats boat all over Lake
Lanier...trying to avoid all the sand/mud bars...not to mention the thousand
redneck bubbas racing around in their gator boats.
