Let's see, I don't have a "flats boat" and have never had one. Secondly, you may not know anything about the area, as witnessed by your bigoted remarks, but there are many large lakes in the area. Thirdly, with about 900 miles of shoreline, one would be hard pressed "poling...all over Lake Lanier". Thirdly, while I know that you are making bigoted, stupid, and childish remarks about an area you know nothing about (ala Harry) the area is progressive, and quite well off. The median income I'm certain is much higher than Halifax. Fourthly, there are no gators in the Atlanta area unless someone goes to the coastal swamps and puts one in a lake or river, and they won't last. So, see how utterly stupid you sound? |

Why anyone would want a bigger boat than yours? 900 miles of shoreline not counting islands. Beautiful mountain scenery. Outside of monuments. etc. in the DC area, it's just blah and flat....Maybe that's why you only put a few hours a year on your boat. |

FL Today has a weekly column which runs on Tuesdays in the Life and Health section called "People Pharmacy". This column deals with natural remedies, something I personally think are a good idea. Don't know if there is anything on diabetes, but it may be worth checking out. |

Maybe 2500 klics, but that is even a little stupid and wasteful for a weekend. I have towed 400 miles to Oregon of a couple day run, but I include a couple extra days. Since one does not tow at the speed of the non towing, even if the speed limit was the same, the extra hours and the extra fuel adds up. Driving my diesel truck without the boat I get about 18-19 mpg for a 400 mile trip at 75-80 mph. Towing I get about 13.5 mpg at 65 mph and about 15 at 55 mph. Which is an extra 15 gallons for the round trip. Plus you have a trailer failure at times. Just driving I could take the wifes new Venza that should get 25-27 mpg. Which is a 30 gallon saving. I love having the boat, and have towed it to Tofino in BC, but that is for 2-3 weeks. |

People who race smaller dinghy type boats travel all over for races & regattas. Yes, I know real sailers. Married the daughter of a racer. Last boat a 30' Islander MK II. But driving 2500 miles for a weekend is not a normal smart thing to do. Maybe if you could toss the dingy on top the car, then make more sense. But very few dingy sailers travel a thousand miles each way more than 1 or 2 times a year for a race. Just like when I raced cars. To tow to Riverside Raceway, was a day down a day back and a weekend of racing. Since I worked for a living and did not live off the government, I had to schedule days off. And to go to Kent, Washington, took a day and a half each way or tow for 15 hours to get there. |
