Went to the boat show Thursday at noon with my buddy who's up from the
British Virgin Islands. Seemed to be the same old..same old. Lots of motor boats with only a small amount of sailboats. You'd think a shift would start after the gas price scare last year. I was mostly checking out side console type aluminum boats as an upgrade from my Yukon 15. Prices still seem hefty.... at least three times what I paid for the Yukon. I'd better wait & see what's left in my wallet after I purchase a new SUV next month. Just to make it interesting, we had quite a snowstorm that day...starting as we drove out. |

The oil companies sucked pretty much as much as they could out of us last year, so they may wait a bit before trying again. I filled up last week for $1.69 a gallon. |

I haven't been to a boat show in years, and then only went to the fishing exhibits - mostly Canadian lodge deals - so I don't remember what boats they were showing. I get an e-mail newsletter from Boattest.com, and though it's sometimes interesting, they concentrate on high HP powerboats, most of them high end and very expensive. The best part of boat and auto shows is usually free wine and beer tasting booths. One time with a couple buddies at the Chicago Auto show we drank a lot of free wine by dint of being potential orderers of the wine program, which wasn't really badly priced. I remember drinking some really good German white wines. I agreed to join the 2 buddies in doing an order where we'd all get a bottle of wine each month. A month later I asked my buddy if the wine had been delivered. I was looking forward to it. A white Zinfandel I think. He said "Hell, I canceled that as soon as I got home from the auto show. I just wanted some free wine." I never forgave him for that. --Vic |

Actually I never got free beer, but I can imagine it happening if a beer company marketed like that wine distributor did. Oh, I forgot the models at the shows. That was really my favorite part. I almost dated one, but her ma was watching her like a hawk and dragged her away. It is very sad that I forgot the models, but remember the beer and wine. That says something I prefer not to dwell upon. --Vic |

Maybe hold off on the SUV, might be able to get a GM SUV on firesale in a few months. Maybe 40-50% off MSRP for cash buyers. |

Does anyone expect GM to last the year? But give me a new undamaged not seconds Sierra 3500HD with long box and leather, Duramax auto and all trailer/towing options in a 4x4 for say $20K I will live with a 90 day waranty. That way if I need a $10K fix, I am assured value. Oh, and the wife demands heated seats... Call it depression pricing. If I had to pay more, would look at a F350-Lariat. Have a F150-Lariat, nice ride. Because many seem to be on sacrifice sale right now. |

Why does the heating element run right across the ping where the delicate part of my rear end meets the seat. I refer to the seats as ass burner seats. Call it depression pricing. After I refinance the house, for a rediculous interest rate and fold in the wife's car new car note into the mortgage all the while saving $700 a month in the process, I'm looking hard at a new Mustang. The mid-life crisis is hitting me a little late in life. |
