Went to the boat show Thursday at noon with my buddy who's up from the British Virgin Islands. Seemed to be the same old..same old. Lots of motor boats with only a small amount of sailboats. You'd think a shift would start after the gas price scare last year. I was mostly checking out side console type aluminum boats as an upgrade from my Yukon 15. Prices still seem hefty.... at least three times what I paid for the Yukon. I'd better wait & see what's left in my wallet after I purchase a new SUV next month. Just to make it interesting, we had quite a snowstorm that day...starting as we drove out. Maybe hold off on the SUV, might be able to get a GM SUV on firesale in a few months. Maybe 40-50% off MSRP for cash buyers. Would that come with..or without a warranty? ;-) Probably without. LOL. Does anyone expect GM to last the year? But give me a new undamaged not seconds Sierra 3500HD with long box and leather, Duramax auto and all trailer/towing options in a 4x4 for say $20K I will live with a 90 day waranty. That way if I need a $10K fix, I am assured value. Oh, and the wife demands heated seats... Why does the heating element run right across the ping where the delicate part of my rear end meets the seat. I refer to the seats as ass burner seats. Funny, I agree. But my wife likes her ass roasted warm what can I say? I never use them myself. But the stipulation was no heater, no leather and I like leather seats. Easier to clean up compared to peach fuzz synthetics. Call it depression pricing. If I had to pay more, would look at a F350-Lariat. Have a F150-Lariat, nice ride. Because many seem to be on sacrifice sale right now. After I refinance the house, for a rediculous interest rate and fold in the wife's car new car note into the mortgage all the while saving $700 a month in the process, I'm looking hard at a new Mustang. The mid-life crisis is hitting me a little late in life. I take it you are in rec.boats because you boat. Forget mid-life crisis it isn't worth it. If it doesn't haul fishing gear, beer, fish and pull a boat it isn't worth crap. If I could make a decent wage living on a lake, I would. So moving stuff some distances for me is essential. |

A commonly propagated union and political myth to keep the sheep herd happy. The truth is while a lower dollar does decrease labour/value costs, it also means raw material goes up negating the benefits. And with a lower dollar, few Canadians can afford the 28% to 50% premium on vehicle pricing. For example say I have a bumper made in Ohio for $1000 USD. Then put it on a truck in Canada, in Canadian dollars it is $1300. That $300 (30%) pop in pricing excludes many from buying it in Canada. Just means Canadians are working cheaper but buying less. Lowers the standard of living and fuels the depression. But CBC, the government sponsored media will say all is well to appease the herd. For people like me, the boat is going to have to wait at least another year or two unless someone nearby has a firesale. Given local pricing for the boats, not likely. Paying $60K CAD for a $25K USD boat is stupid. |
