QUIT ****ING ASKING ME... Assholes... -- Happy Holidays and Merry Whatever It Is That ****es Liberals Off. I assume you are talking about updates from Quicktime. There is an option where you can turn off auto updates, and when you install Quicktime, the default setting is to "Keep me up to date with Apple news, software updates, and the latest information on products and services." I never check this option, but I would think you can "unsubscribe" to this service. I do/have/continue to do so - they keep sending it to me. I've even bitched about it directly - they sent me instructions to reinstall QT Pro so that it doesn't do it again - it still keeps doing it. It seems like every time QT "updates" (which is just another way of saying "what have you been listening to or watching with QT lately" as I've never used iTunes for anything other than loading my iPod), this crap happens. Apple is getting as bad as Google in that respect. Dorks. Try Option B Open Control Panal Click on Quicktime Click on "updates" tab - verify that it is not set for auto update Click on "Streaming" tab - verify that the "enable instant on" is not checked. If that doesn't correct the problem. Walk out the garage and get a large hammer ..... I am absoutely serious about this - I bought Quick Time Pro to use because it does some stuff with .avi files that Ulead doesn't do (although I understand the latest version does - need to look into that). I installed it six/eight months ago and it went through the whole "you want this, want that, try this, try that" installation procedure and it also updated my iTunes program. Ok - fine - no sweat. I don't use iTunes for music, but hey - who knows right? The whole autoupdate thing started. I did as you suggest, turned it off, blah, blah, blah and it just kept on doing the updates. I called Apple and bitched a blue streak - got nowhere. Went to the Apple store in Providence Mall and bitched at them - they gave me a detailed instruction sheet on uninstalling and reinstalling QT Pro (which, if I had thought about it at the time, meant that they must have had this problem reported to them before) which I followed to the letter. Worked for a little while as I didn't receive any "update" requests, then it started again when I called up QT to work on a video presentation one of Mrs. Wave's student teachers had done. And I can't get it to stop - I've even tried the detailed instruction sheet again - it just won't stop. And it's ****ing me off - again. Hmmm - maybe it's time for a new computer. :) A PC!!! Freakin' Apple... -- Preliminary operational tests were inconclusive (the damn thing blew up) |
