I was talking to her just yesterday while looking at the Comcast packages on the net. Among the stuff she lost was "Lifetime" and some other "chick" channel. I lost C-span 2 and Nat Geo. The next step up adds those back and quite a few more, including the military channel. Can't remember them all. I said, "It'll cost about 15 a month more for that package. Should we get it?" She just looked at me, but never answered. She ALWAYS has an answer, even if it's "You decide." So it looks like I found another way she has to say "Yes." I left it at that, as the phone rang. But I'm going to go up a package. I'm only living once, and she's got the same deal. --Vic |

Every so often I'll call up and tell them I'm going to cancel and go with Verizon. Time before last, they gave me a six months deal, reducing my bill by about $35/mo. Then my bill jumped back up. I left it there for a couple months, and then called and whined again. This time they took $7.95 off for one year, but I have to stay with them for the year (which I'd have done anyway). So, you might try calling and whining. Maybe they'll give you the new service free for six months. Hell, it's worth a try! Maybe you won't save enough to buy a dinner at Mickey D's,. but you'll feel better. -- ** Good Day! ** John H |

In the "scoring" section I gave mostly very low grades, mainly to catch someone's attention. It did. The scores prompted an additional survey page and a request for comments because of the low scores. I took my time and carefully crafted a polite but accurate account of the whole fiasco, starting last Saturday, the promises made and defaulted on, the frustration of having to go through the whole process, describing the problem, etc. even though "Reference" numbers had given to me for future calls if required. I explained how the home service never showed and how I finally found a couple on lunch break in a local parking lot. I gave those guy kudos for being responsive, knowledgeable and understanding of our frustration. I suggested that Comcast should consider a major overhaul of their telephone technical assistance. At the end of the survey, they still wanted me to sign up for internet telephone. Eisboch |

They're getting me for about $155 here, but I probably don't get the same stuff you have. Anyway I called about the step-up, which is called "Digital Classic" but I would need a box on each TV, since mine aren't digital. Not cost effective. I never bluff, so the threats won't work since I've got nowhere else to go except satellite, which I don't want - yet. So I'll just live with what I have for now. --Vic |

About five miles from here, the power company feeder line was hit by a falling tree this morning (windstorm). Big enough fire for three engines to show up, and apparently someone was injured because I saw an ambulance leaving the scene in a hurry. Power out for a few hours, including, of course, cable and anyone's phone that depends on cable. Landline phone...just fine. |

My problem is the Comcast internet here isn't reliable. I might get the Skype service where you keep your phone number and you can hook a Skype phone to the modem - don't have to have a computer turned on. Unfortunately the phone looked pretty expensive when I last checked. But I would want an AT&T DSL line instead of Comcast, hoping it would be more reliable. Don't know. It would be a lot cheaper. Going to DSL and Skype would eliminate my Comcast digital phone and internet which total about $100 a month. The new cost for Phone/DSL would be about $20 a month. Not sure how well Skype would work with DSL, or how much my daughter would bitch about DSL instead of broadband when doing her schoolwork. So I probably won't do a damn thing. But hey, I did give it some thought. --Vic |

You should've just called Harry he can fix anything. Anybody should. Heck, I am far from a computer expert, but I successfully installed and setup a wireless home network system for my son at his Beachouse. All you have to do is carefully follow the instructions. Our system was dependent on Comcast. *That* was the problem. Eisboch I've got Comcast, and I set up my own wireless network without a glitch. Legitimizes the do-it-yourself notion...... I have a feeling the "cable modem" Eisboch was issued, and not the router, or router side, was at fault here. There really isn't much to setting up a router if you are not assigning IP addresses to the devices on your home network. |
