Just called the house sitter - about 14 inches of snow in Woodstock.

Glad I'm not there.

Um..why don't you get a blade for that John Deere bucket - you've
already got the hydraulics for it - you just need to fit a blade on
the bucket. I even think, for some reason, that JD makes a blade for
that bucket loader.

Be a hell of a lot cheaper than a plow rig for the F-250.

Sorry - just driving by and saw the post.

Two reasons (for when you can get to read them).

1. The tractor is open to the weather. I used to have an enclosure and
heater for it,
but it cut down the visibility too much, especially if it was still
snowing or sleeting. Plus, the enclosure
a lot of openings in it and a gust of wind would overwhelm the heater in
one blast.

2. The tractor, even in four wheel drive, just doesn't have the traction in
snow that the
truck has. It's fine in dirt, sand, etc. but the type of tires it has
makes for very poor
traction in ice, snow or wet mud. When we were resurfacing the main
horse paddock, I buried
the tractor up to it's wheel hubs in mud several times and had to pull
it out with the truck.

I figure the truck cab will be nice and warm, protected from the elements,
plus I can drive it
over to family and friend's houses and help with their driveways.

BTW, I measured the final snowfall amount after it finally died down
yesterday on a big table sitting outside the barn. A little over 20 inches
before it started changing to rain/sleet.
