No, I am *not" discussing my personal religious beliefs here. I do happen to know Observant Jews, they are friends of mind, and you obviously don't know Observant Jews from a hole in the ground. No, you don't discuss your personal religious beliefs here. You discuss everyone else's. Eisboch No, I don't. I discuss religions, and I do point out from time to time that many of those who proclaim their religion the loudest seem to be proclaimers only. Do you realize how arrogant and just plain stupid you sound when you make statements like this. Actions speak louder than words. Most of those here who proclaim their religious beliefs the loudest talk the talk but their behavior here indicates they don't walk the walk. You have often professed an interest in the teachings of Buddha and may possibly be a follower of the Dali Lama. You actions of constantly mocking and judging other beliefs is contrary to Buddhism and the teachings of the Dali Lama. I'm also interested in the teachings of Jesus and many of the Biblical prophets, and I certainly am a fan of the Dalai Lama. It's not the "beliefs" I mock, it's the self-proclaimed believers. Harry, could you give an example of 'self-proclaimed believers'? You keep using the term, and I've asked for examples, but you've not been able to provide any. I even offered a suggestion or two. Does your religious faith encourage the 'mocking' of others? My father's second wife was Jewish, but I've never known her to mock anyone. -- Salmonbait Harry's definition of an Observant Jew is based upon his limited knowledge of a few Orthodox Jews he knew as a child. He believes their interpretation of the Torah is the only interpretation used by practicing Jews. At no time did i think my little jokes about Christmas carols and Chinese food would be a basis for trying to defend those who do not follow the same practices as "Harry's Jews". There are Orthodox Jews who actually have to tear and prefold toilet paper before Sabbath just so they work on the Sabbath. They don't turn on or off a light on the Sabbath, they don't answer the phone. Is this the majority of practicing Jews, NO. Even in Israel, 80% of the Jews will drive on Sabbath. Harry's knowledge of Judaism and definition of a Observant Jew is just another way to mock someone's beliefs. According to Harry one would have to follow all 613 Mitzvot or they could not be considered an Observant Jew. One of the Mitzvot says one must not charge an Israeli interest on a loan, one says do not demand repayment of a loan from someone who is poor, and every 7 years one must forgive all debts, one must allow all fields to remain fallow and one should not harvest from trees or vines on that year. Based upon all 613 Mitzvot there probably are no Observant Jews left in the world. Harry knowledge of religion is used to ridicule others, nothing more, nothing less. Harry does ridicule others. I think that's part of his complaint to Tim the other day that he wasn't being treated nicely. I really believe that he would be treated much more nicely if he stopped his ridicule, name-calling, insulting, and cross posting. But, that's just my opinion. I wish I had an $850 desk chair. -- Salmonbait You really don't get it. You actually think I care about the behavior in this group? There are a few posters here with whom I enjoy exchanging pleasantries and quips. I don't give a tinker's dam about the rest. If you want a good desk chair, buy one. Yes, you were complaining to Tim about the way you were treated. You complain that all these other people call you names and insult you, and therefore you should return the behavior. If you didn't care, why would you be so desirous of returning the behavior? If you 'don't give a tinker's damn about the rest', then why try so hard to insult, degrade, call names, or 'best' the 'rest'. I'd never spend $850 on a desk chair. I'd rather put the money in the bank for my grandkids' college expenses. If I had one, I'd surely not brag about it. -- Salmonbait 1. Your interpretation of my comments to Tim is incorrect. 2. You might consider working on others here. My position is perfectly clear and will not change no matter how much hectoring you attempt. 3. It's tinker's dam, John. Not damn. 4. You take note of my desk chair with two new Toyotas, a new boat, and a new travel trailer in your driveway, and many, many more grandchildren than I have? Talk about hypocrisy. I like the numbering system, it makes responding much simpler. re 4. Is taking note of something insulting? What 'hypocrisy' did I perform? re 3. Thanks for the correction. re 2. I've considered same. Your behavior is, in my opinion (and that of many others you respect), the instigating factor. You claim it's because of your politics. That is false. re 1. My interpretation is accurate. If, in your opinion, it is incorrect, please try to correct it. -- Salmonbait |
