I thought I'd play a round of golf in Fredricksburg, and then I'd stop by
and tour the new Marine Corps Museum on the way home. Wrong. This place is huge, and loaded. It is definitely a full day's excursion, and all I got today was a taste. What a well done museum! In a town full of museums, great museums, this one is right up there with the best. "Iron Mike" greets you at the front door. http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...neMuseum03.jpg And after passing a couple Marine guards, you enter the main hall with 'The Mast' which extends outside the top of the building. http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...neMuseum13.jpg This is the outside view, which I posted last week. http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l2...ing2008075.jpg It's free, and you don't even have to be a Marine to enter. Hell, the guards didn't even give me a funny look. Maybe they though I was ugly enough to be a Marine. Go see it, if you're in the area, If you've got a few hours to spare, it's right off the northernmost Quantico exit. Very easy to get to. -- John |
