Special election or special auction? Sounds like if they played it right, Illinois might get to alleviate some of their financial woes if they simply put the various offices up for bid. Only if they did it legally. Unfortunately, Illinois and particularly Chicago, doesn't see the advantage in being legal. The interesting historical tidbit is that the incorporation election for Chicago is suppose to have been swayed by the wholesale importation of immigrant workers off a nearby canal project. Yep, Chicago is based on vote fraud from the get-go. But hey, Barak says he knows nothing about this. I don't know which is worse, that he doesn't know, or that he believes we'll believe a Chicago politician. It was an idea as dumb as a winger & Obama is smart. QED not involved. The local dems have been much against the gov & wondering if he's crazy for some time anyway. Perhaps they suspected he had become a winger. HTH -- Cliff |

Smart enough to avoid indictment and not being involved are two totally different things. Obama is like Daley. Corruption and controversy all around him, but he manages to avoid being directly involved in it. Meanwhile his pals are being arrested, convicted, and sent to jail. The local dems have been much against the gov & wondering if he's crazy for some time anyway. Perhaps they suspected he had become a winger. Utter bull****. Obama worked on both of Blagojevich's gubernatorial campaigns and Blago enjoyed the Democratics party's support right up until he was arrested. Now they can't get far enough away from him. Especially candidates one through five. According to soon to be White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, he, Blago, Barack Obama, and David Wilhelm were the chief architects of the Blagojevich campaign stating that he and Obama "participated in a small group that met weekly when Rod was running for governor. We basically laid out the general election, Barack and I and these two." During that campaign Blagojevich was already under scrutiny from the FBI and Fitzgerald. Obama's real estate fairy, Tony Rezko, donated money in the '04 election cycle to Bush in an effort to get Bush to pull Fitzgerald out of Chicago. Where's Rahm? Better yet, where's Jim DeLeo? After all he's the man behind the man for both Rod Blagojevich (D-Self Enrichment) and Rahm Emanuel (D- Obama). Nothing happens with either Rod or Rahm without DiLeo giving his OK. If Obama were any kind of a leader he wouldn't be lying about this scandal right out of the gate. "I had no contact with the governor or his office and so we were not, I was not aware of what was happening." - President-elect Obama (Is that an "I" or a "we" or both?) David Axlerod speaking of the President-elect and the open Senate seat - "I know he's talked to the governor and there are a whole range of names many of which have surfaced, and I think he has a fondness for a lot of them." So who is lying Cliff? Obama or Daley's former right hand man and soon to be White House Chief of Staff, Axlerod? If Obama were a leader not only would he have talked to Blagojevich, he should have. He has zero interest in who is going to take over his Senate seat? If that really is the case he isn't fit to lead. He should care very much about who takes the seat and there is absolutely nothing wrong nor illegal for him as a leader of the party and soon to be leader of the country to discuss the matter with the governer. If Blagojevich offered a trade for the seat and if Obama had a single moral fiber in his body, he should have gone to the Feds and reported it. Instead, Obama now has the whole transition team working on documenting the contact that Obama originally said his team never had. Not to mention all the time they are wasting spinning some sort of yarn to sell the fawning national media. BTW, John Harris resigned today. Since you seem to know nothing about Illinois politics, he was arrested along with Blago and was Blagojevich's chief of staff. Before he took that job, he was Mayor Daley's go to guy and budget director. That would be around the same era when Michelle Obama was Daley's personal assistant and Daley's administration became ensnared in the "Hired Truck Scandal." IIRC, there were around 50 Democrats convicted in total due to that scandal and all the other bits of corruption that came to light as a result of the subsequent investigations. Not to mention the stray mobsters and gang bangers caught in the net as well. You need them to encourage people to vote, donate, and shut their yaps. If you lived here Obama's campaign rhetoric would have sounded old and tired to you. We've heard it twice before when Rod "The Un-Reformer" Blagojevich was running for governer.
